F&O layoffs in US?

Rumor has it there are significant cuts coming to F&O in US. High percentages were thrown around, but that may be specific on individual teams. Anyone has more details? Will they be focusing on people who are far away from the offices? Will it be based on seniority and individual price tag?

With F&O gone who is going to book meeting rooms, discuss internal projects and build PowerPoints? Seriously though last years notice was given in the US first week of April with exits happening first week of May.

I can see how February 29 would be a nice day for 1:1 calls. That would cleanly finish 30 days on March 29, and complete separation by end of Q1. I don’t see them giving people 90 days to work. None of it is based on any facts, just on many years with the company and seeing quality peers getting hit left and right.

was just to to stay away from non billable jobs. Mentioned rumors are swirling and the new CEO wants only billable, close to office resources. If you manage global teams the only direction is to get to your own local office, no more remote, if you are not in person, managing your team you are not managing per ceo. Expect double digit cuts announced in March (1st?) and to be completed by end of 2nd qtr. 90 days and out you go.

F&O has been an early adopter of AI, automation, and agile for many, many years. Remember the IBV report re: the cognitive enterprise a six years ago? It’s all coming together finally, where operations is continually being streamlined. However, this is such an excellent opportunity to learn new and different skills for future roles at IBM.

IBM is aiming for a USA head count that is lower. They would like to lower the head count of Northern Europe and Canada too, but those two locations have some worker protections built in, that makes it a little more difficult vs just RA’ing and PIP‘’ing in the USA. I expect they will get close to their NA goal (15% of world wide head count) by year end.

Those who went to Kyndryl were not replaced 1:1, rather 1 for 3 and solely by those in India and Brazil. In the meantime, those in IBM US were not replaced at all. The teams simply shrunk. A good number of people who stayed on to work as contractors for IBM, didn’t get an assignment at Kyndryl when it was time for them to return to Kyndryl. Both companies are loosing contracts and cutting people. The difference is that unlike other companies, IBM never partaken in COVID hiring!

@1lal I imagine a whole bunch of F&O people left (on their own or were cut) after the Kyndryl split. Those who didn't move to Kyndryl were no longer required.

The real deadwood at IBM is anyone with the words Business Partner in their title. They are nothing but ledger scrubbers looking for deals to get paid on. They should all be exited immediately

It’s not just finance people, CIO is under F&O as well; their focus is to drastically cut US staff since their mission is mainly in India and Brazil.

@bbt+1qY6NqRL. I have a feeling there are not many f&o people left in the us and they are not exactly the highest banded / paid people so , maybe have some compassion.

How about the company finds a way to improve performance without constant layoffs?

Umm...why are F&O on the hit list now, at this late date?

There once was a time, you know, when F&O was one of the LAST departments that would ever see a personnel cut. (Legal was another.)

It will be based on how well you are connected to JW (she’s the boss). If she can’t recognize you in a busy crowd at the North Castle cafeteria- then your name could easily be on the next RA list. It helps to have your first and second line managers as your biggest fans. But at the end of the day if there is only 1 life jacket - your manager will save themselves.

Good riddance... better get rid of these people than actual perform technical resources that do make money for the company. Sorry F&O people, it is not personal!
