Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

7 colleagues laid off today!

Yet another of mgmt gimmicks
just 10 days back our mgmt said that our cloud group is growing and safe and that we should not worry and just today announced layoffs.

The worse is they are letting go of seniors / seasoned employees who were actually contributing!

age biasing at its best!

They're also letting go of seniors / seasoned employees who were not contributing and in many cases actively making things worse than had they not been there. It's amazing how many people can get a college degree and not understand negative numbers.

I knew some got LR at 49 just to avoid to pay the insurance. Cisco is evil.

I don’t believe this post. Cisco won’t do this 5 days before earnings. I call bullsh-t.

Been following this site for a long time now, while I was at Cisco and after I left 3+ years ago. I'm old, and I really wasn't thought much of by my manager and overall management back in the days. Took the ER package and went to a new company. The new company didn't see me as "old", but rather "key". As of this past week, my total RSU grants from this company pushed me over 7 figures. Not too shabby.

For those workers above 50, they need to prove that why the company should keep them because they are relatively more expensive than keeping new graduate or H1 visa workers. It is pretty common practice in industry. When you grew old and didn't have right skills, companies will dump you.

It's reality; everyone knows Cisco goes after older workers. They get around age discrimination by offering fair severance packages that people sign off on. Some have been better than others over the years for packages, but it's how they work it. You don't know how many internal people talk about that. It's always a discussion, oh, you're over 50, but still here, it's only a matter of time. They keep some older workers around so that they can say we've got people close to 70.
