Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Will Sony choose Intel for Playstation 6?

Or are games a lifestyle too? Wake the f up Pat!

We need products, not more fabs!

One of those things is not like the other.
Phones and ARM processors in general are a HIGH GROWTH market.

Console units have been flat for many many years. The hardware is low margin because all of the margin is in the software. They practically give the hardware away at cost.

Why do you think Nvidia has never been in consoles even though they clearly have the best GPUs?

“ There’s no money in consoles”
“iPhone deal is loss making”
“x86 will be more power efficient that Arm soon”

Quotes that are fit to be on tombstone of Intel 😀😀😀

So, spin up an entire design team to make 0 money for Intel!

Sounds great!
Let me know how you’ll find engineers to staff this team since apparently they grow on trees.

Did you also hear that Intel GPUs are sh!t? I’m sure we can find stellar GPU engineers to deliver what Sony needs. Just like ARC.

No money doesn't mean no value - console business is a great marketing message. SMG should be all over the vendors... But y'all know where they are instead.

There’s no money in consoles for chip vendors.

Console market was another market that Otellini destroyed for Intel, apart from iPhone & ARM.
