Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Yall get your title change letter from HR? It’s called compensation evolution but the only thing that changes is your title. No extra money.

The evolution of comp for VZ is to stop looking at the money. Just think of the fake titles and fun hub event days where you can jenga away your day like family and use that to pay bills.

Question: Anyone knows what the new AD STI and the entry Manager STI are?

Well they just basically made the Director title useless like the banks. We now Directors with no organization, no direct reports, etc. We have former Indirect Account Mgr that was asleep for 7hrs of the day and 2 disappeared for 2 years during the pandemic as a Director. They could have put Director or Account or Account Directors to these. They flip flop the Sr Mgr with no direct reports to the title at the end and the ones with 3 or less to the front. Basically brought back the Sr Consultant title. Anyone knows what the new AD Sti and the entry Mgr sti are?

Former VZ here that got caught up in congratulating the fake promotions on Linked In. Who brags about a promotion like that? How embarrassing.

Cut off a competitor from stealing talent? I was thinking it was in invitstion/incentive to get rid of it.

LinkedIn is now a clown show with everyone touting their title change. It so laughable. It may be a way to cut off any competitor from stealing talent since they think you just got promoted when in reality they just changed the letters on your eweb profile.

If I got a title bump, I’d be worried. Better title but no pay increase? Looks like a boost to the resume and possibly a better severance outcome… maybe the RIF’s will be going top down this time.

its going to make everyone look bad, externally. people congratulating folks on linkedin for their promotion or new job, when it was just a title change. no job change, no role change.... and it will raise a flag - why?

Comp evo came quietly with money moved over to at risk dollars with goals to hit. Paid less if missed. Much easier to performance improve you out, no severance either. Win win

The clown show at Verizon continues while there is not a soul in senior management who currently understands what business they are actually in.

It's like the bank... everyone is now a vice president. Means absolutely nothing but it's an attempt to make you feel better about your role at Verizon. Remember, HR works for Verizon not for you. You are cattle.

@yen+1qaCZDh2

This means you were near bottom of band and were brought up because your salary would literally be out of the band of the new title. Many people’s (higher) salaries did not change.

Dead end IC roles do, lol.

Search VZweb for “mgr” and it’s this particular abbreviated title, followed by the individual’s department.

“Mgr-Corp Communications” and similar.

Technical tracks end in Fellow.

@2ail+1qaCZDh2
8v Analyst, 7T Sr Analyst, 7V Consultant, 6V Manager (formerly Sr Consultant) was what I remember. As of a month ago even had some sr mgr individual contributors on my team so I guess they will get bumped up too.

@2vcg+1qaCZDh2 sorry I am not familiar with an IC track that resulted in a manager with no direct reports. In my division ICs develop through something like 8 levels that end in Fellow. Managers and above, in my division, must have direct reports. That track ends in VP or something. There was a ton of info from HR explaining it all in detail, at least for me.

@@2scf+1qaCZDh2, the manager title is not people leading. It was the highest level an individual contributor could reach as an individual contributor (to the best of my knowledge). My understanding from everything I read and heard from HR (which was nearly nothing) is that the manager title auto shifts up to senior manager. So is senior manager no longer a people leading position but in fact the new manager role? And if so what becomes of the previous manager role? What becomes of IC consultants who want to progress their career as an individual contributor? Do they now move into the senior manager role? Does AD become the entry people leading position for ICs who have reached their IC glass ceiling?

@2pfd+1qaCZDh2 Managers manage people. They have direct reports. That is the track that got title changed. ICs work on stuff without direct reports. That track remained leveled as is.
@2huv+1qaCZDh2 I work hard but anything is possible I guess.

I'm envisioning the manager title is the new state of limbo, as dictionary defined:

a place or state of oblivion to which persons or things are regarded as being relegated when cast aside, forgotten, past, or out of date

an imaginary place for lost, forgotten, or unwanted persons or things

Orrrrr, maybe that's us consultants now 🤔

As a follow-up to my last question about the manager title, I feel even more confused bc managers auto bumped to SM. So if a IC consultant would previously move up to an IC manager, do they now move up to the SM, and is SM now IC? Can anyone even become manager now and if so, who and what for? I feel like I am more confused than ever with my potential career progression

I guess I feel confused bc band 6 got the bump but band 7 didn't. Does it mean we don't have anyone in a manager title now? I always suspected it would get eliminated, but I don't understand the gap they currently have created. Anyone have insight on this?

@2lpa+1qaCZDh2 lmao, everyone who complains is a drunk and a complainer. God I love managers like that, Every single one of them I had got sh-t canned during a RIF, seeing the VZ mask come off and them losing their sh-t going on a tirade about how it was unfair it is and how its everyone else's fault was so tasty.

I hope you are a manager in my group. I’m going to enjoy seeing your tears.

If you have not taken advantage of the internal job postings, and school reimbursement programs available, you should really just keep quiet. I was an individual contributor for just a few years before applying to and selected to management. I'm just a plain white guy too. As an IC i yielded an excellent salary, manager I make an amazing salary with excellent benefits, most recently a huge bump in LTI for just being here. You complainers should spend some time learning how to stop drinking at night and study, then maybe get your stuff together and do something positive with your life.

From what I’ve been reading it seems they didn’t change much except maybe the top. I wonder if the manager position will have its sti lowered for anyone new coming in. The new 6- step between 7 and the old 6.

They change titles when they want to control salaries based on market. They pay based on a job title and what is assumed one does based on that title. . Not the work, not that you bust your a-s. They adopt job titles that will ensure they can award 0% next year. They have done this before.

This is ridiculous. Anyone know what are the new STI pcts if there was a change? We are basically calling a spade a Sr spade now. I guess good thing is thsf it sounds like most people didnt lose pay. However, for Consultants, Sups, Analyst coming into band 6 will get the Mgr title first and then have to get promotion to the Sr Mgr and probably lower pay and sti possibly. Dilution at it's best.

I wouldn’t think it’s a slap in the face to the “peons” if anything to me it seems like they’re aligning titles cause they all do the same job and now they have an accurate count of how many they have and eliminate all the redundant positions 1Q.

Post ID: @1kta+1qaCZDh2

& the biggest slap in the face to the peons, as usual. They have been hearing employee feedback for some time now in regards to minimal raises as the world fights inflation and struggles and the most useless bunch gets title changes and - don't be fooled - there most certainly are pay increases for some/most involved. Just sickening. Once again, ask for feedback and then just double-sm--k the folks actually doing the WORK every single day right in the face. Disgusting.

Tech folks did not get title changes because there is already a hierarchy:

SMTS
PMTS
LMTS (AT&T has LMTS, not VZ)
DMTS

And any deviation thereof would dilute the meaning of the title.

They did not even make tech track people happy. Guess what they do not want anything to do with technology. Gave old office type of roles a title refresh. Once AI is here, you do not even need those people.
