Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Life after AT&T...

I was part of Learning Services. They outsourced the course design to a third party vendor who uses cheap labor in India. So all of the course designers were told that their jobs were being eliminated effective Dec 1st.

At first, after we got the notice, I was sad because I had plans to stay at AT&T until I retire. Now that I am officially off payroll and I have time to reflect, I am so happy it happened. I didn't realize how toxic the work environment was until I left.

Its stressful not knowing where you will get your next paycheck but I cant be mad at AT&T because they gave me a nice severance package and I am moving on to new opportunities.

We had a trainer that would run new hire training via Zoom in their pajamas. Absolutely laughable organization.

Whether you quit or get laid off, keep coming back here and don't let Stankey off the hook.

I’ve been away from AT&T for over two months and can tell you I don’t miss anything about it. My new job has a much better work life, balance, paid overtime, imagine that. Yes, my insurance benefits are not as good, but my stress levels and mental health are much better.

@"Tough place for hard working, effective, results achieving females over 40."

So tired of statements like this. You'd think the fate of the company rests on you.

Decisions are always made in a vacuum with no imput from the team doing the actual work. That is the T way. All about the metrics not the customer. Pitiful

OP—Were you completely unaware of the general employee opinion of TU and training courses offered? Did you think Learning Services was a value add org?

Is TU still around? Most of the online mandatory training lessons come from LinkedIn nowadays.

Awesome for you! :). I agree about life being better after the T.

The TU org has shifted into the arm of indoctrination for implementing diversity, equity, and inclusion -- from the top on down. Perhaps the saddest element of this is that those selected based on this criteria actually believe they were selected because they were the best candidates. No, they were most often times selected simply as token candidates.

Unfortunately, T is a mirror of other large corporations who are following the same path of destruction. Think about this for a moment - while T and others are so focused on DEI promotions, companies around the world are focused on real competition - and are kicking T's arss. The problem is worse given that these politics are now taking hold in the US Military. While the Left has us focused on DEI there as well, the enemy is working on technology to wipe us off the map.

Kudos to you OP! Jeez people it’s not like he/she came up with the learned services. He/she was just a cog in the wheel like you and I all are.

Training??? Our VP only puts training for who he likes. I work hard, get a lot done but he sees many of us as too old to add insight and experience. CS believes what he hears on who’s good and who’s not. Tough place for hard working, effective, results achieving females over 40. CS should take a look at where work is getting done and stop drinking kool aid about who’s good and decipher who really carries the load. But this will never happen. What can happen is the “ignored many of us” can just do bare minimum bc we’re not appreciated — even acknowledged and even worse — if we didn’t do our jobs well, network would have issues.
But unless you’re in front of execs proposing the deals, your hard work behind the scenes will be ignored.

Re: And then we go back to the days of Ken, with his elaborate in-person mandatory Leadership conferences. Yeah, I can see how an orchestra or magician's skills are useful in building the leadership of Toxic-T. A ouija board would have been better!

Comment: just for this nasty comment, I am launching 4 elaborate virtual LWD events for 2024. Actually, I’m so mad you mocked Ken, that I’m making it 5 events. One in each hub, just to confuse you more. Ken was good people. You obviously are not.

The plan is the demise of Learning Services; that’s the goal! Has anyone recognized that the majority of the Strategist AD and Strategist roles went to the design team? You know the very department that was outsourced? T has no intention of changing the L& D department; if they did they wouldn’t have put the outsourced employees back in charge to continue their ways.

Am I Bitter? No! Disillusioned? Yes, there was a period of disillusionment. Will we all be better off? Yes, because T has become a very toxic environment. One whose leaders are about numbers, and not about people any longer.

Life goes on.

I remember back in like 2016 when they did all those renovations at 675 in Atlanta for TU. Then three years later everyone was out of there. Great use of company funds Randal

LOL "strike doo-dee".

I remember my first contingency assignment, there was some quote on the CP page from the operations exec in charge, a "needs of the business" quote in big letters front and center like it came from the Bible or JFK's inauguration.
(Nahh, just a operations manage named Stankey).

I actually learned something about the business, but this wasn't the way to do it—two thirds of our stops had to put off on a ticket. Customers were Not Happy.

It's going to end badly. Those guys in India don't know how to plug in the internet. Especially now that the internet has gone mobile.

First, I think the whole TU "training" should have been cut long ago. The courses were worse and worse as time progressed.

Then there is the whole deal with days and days of the same mandatory worthless training - the same training year over year, with no improvements. What a huge waste of time.

Then there was the months of training each year for "Strike do dee" - excuse me, contingency planning. Yeah right, let me loose in a central office with that crapulant training and I will bankrupt T faster than the Stink!

And then we go back to the days of Ken, with his elaborate in-person mandatory Leadership conferences. Yeah, I can see how an orchestra or magician's skills are useful in building the leadership of Toxic-T. A ouija board would have been better!

So just get on with your life and be happy you escaped Toxic-T and are rid of the Stink!

This decision may be the demise of Learning Services. We have been privately meeting and deciding if we want to pull funding from TU in our next budget and just create our own training courses in the future. We are not happy with the new workflow or the product the vendor is producing. We are are also not happy that no one consulted us, the client, before this big change. The decision was made in a vacuum.
