management "hiring" will be in India this year. And by management, I mean level 2's who have no direct reports. None of our executives would relocate to set an example but have no issue hiring newbies there.

Huge shortage in technicians for the future.

The latest MOA for the new contract prohibits surplussed DEG techs from bumping trained SSIM techs. DEG can take FT and OPT.

Company is always simultaneously hiring and laying off, it’s much more tilted towards layoffs since all the failed acquisition debacles. They have been reducing a lot of the legacy programs, equipment and ranks the last few years. Now they have put it into overdrive to make their master’s (Wall Street) happy, free cash flow must be met to their satisfaction or they will continue to punish the stock price.

“Even in the west, techs are being replaced when a tech leaves or changes positions. Though, there is a problem getting techs to relocate to either CA or AZ due to the high cost of living and housing, especially when the pay scale doesn't cover it!”

Thought they had a contract out west? You mean to tell me the U didn’t negotiate good enough?

Expect contracts to not be renewed, some of y'all cost too much so they send them off to outsiders. You've done a lot of this to yourselves

In the SE, Master contractors are having issues keeping Subs to place buried fiber, not profitable for them so they keep quitting due to local regs and all the other issues they encounter. A lot of rock, uneven terrain, losing missiles under roads, damaging other utilities, etc… It’s slowed the build process.

Building out fiber further requires regen’s to increase distance without too much loss. Continuing to decom legacy equipment, maintaining and turning up new regen’s will keep DEG busy for a while. If there are any targeted surpluses they will pick up Special Services work.

As contracts expire, tech work will be sent to contractors.

They’re hiring installation technicians/wire techs. The internal OPT and FT positions will be filled with DEG techs that will be surplused.

They are hiring for various management positions in the Atlanta area. They are also a few SE, FT, OPT internal Jop postings, just about every wire center has openings for Wire/Installation Techs and for Buried Service Wire in Utility.

Last I checked the job portal all the L2 office job openings were in Dallas and there were a ton. Only saw a couple in Atlanta. This tells me, that the play here is to only hire in Dallas and let the other places wither away.

Firing management while they hire more union represented employees. Love it.

They are actually hiring(internally) for FT’s and OPT’s in Florida. This won’t increase overall headcount because they will all be internal hires, but it’s better than nothing. At least it sounds like there is more work coming down the pipe.

They’re probably hiring outside prem techs not full pay technicians.
