You now it’s the employees fault because they had so much input in buying declining businesses and running them to ground. It can’t be senior leadership or BOD, it’s those durn employees that didn’t execute the master plan. Now, if we could only bring back those successful employees of the past decades. Oh, wait we rightsized them to spread the peanut butter evenly.

Absolutely zero chance headcount increases over the next 5 years. In fact , in two short years, 40% of the existing headcount will be gone from T, many of which to contractors.

2024 EOY target is 115,000. 2025 EOY target is 75,000. Once those milestones are complete, most headcount rationalization will be complete.

Rightsizing had been a long time coming. Management has always been authorized and expected to work overtime to cover workflow shortfalls and continuity gaps.

Randall Stephenson ki-led a cash cow for the company when he first took over and declared POTS and legacy equipment was antiquated. He then proceeded to actively dismantle and discourage customers from ordering it, sometimes with forceful letters until they had their hand slapped. That was before he even had the new fiber infrastructure and VoIP in place. He and Stankey thought they were going to be the convergence media Kings of Hollywood.

Customers never gave a thought to their monthly payments on old land lines, dsl, isdn until he made war on it. What a businessman, ki-l a legacy products making huge profits before the new products were even in place. He was able to retire with his golden parachute while handing the company off to his partner in crime, Stankey and it’s only gotten worse. Cart before the horse, what a legacy of incompetence.

Company trolls, quit trying to spin it with your “rightsizing” speak, call it what it is.
Massive layoffs due to pi$$ poor business decisions by leadership and BOD that has resulted in the world’s largest debt load and liabilities.

The ensuing result, when they finally turned focus back on communications, is decades behind in fiber network buildout, selling of assets, selling companies, stock price decline, dividend reduction, benefits reductions, policy changes for the worse, selling of retiree pensions to an insurance company, toxic workplace, relocations, constant reorgs, loss of meritocracy. They can’t even keep the facilities half-way lit, resupplied or cleaned regularly and the list goes on and on and on.

So tell me again how great the leadership and company is doing again, Because I’m confused by your logic??? I’ve lost a lot of hard working co-workers and friends that had meaningful jobs when this company was a Blue Chip of Wall Street and making huge profits, a little over a decade ago.

Try painting that pig with lipstick and tell me it’s Cinderella.

How many execs can T rightsize for a minimal impact to the operation? It would have a bigger impact to the bottom line. If employee count below exec level has been reduced by over 50%, what number should the final C-suite be?

We keep referring to headcount reductions as the company NOT doing a good job.

But if we are managing to run the business good or bad with WAY less people that is a good thing for the company.

Massive headcount doesn’t equal success.

Employing 200k workers to do the job that should take 75k is bad business.

Hard to spin a loss of over 100k employees in such a short period of time for a business that dates back to 1877. Poor business decisions is the major driver for the loss, even with bloat and technology improvements.

Sad to see all these cuts....this reflects a total lack of senior leadership and innovation...when in doubt... cut costs...guess what geniuses,,,you can't cut yourself to greatness. How Stankey and others have kept their jobs through the past 5 or so years is shameful...they are destroyers of shareholder value...time to go...the AT&T BOD is gutless. Where is the accountability???

I believe the current headcount is approximately 138k so, another large % drop year over year. It isn’t because of spinning off the recent acquisitions either because until recently the headcount was always mid 200k from 2010.

  1. 29% decline in employee headcount from the years 2018-2022.

Business decisions and technology improvements has serious consequences for most all employees, exception would be the BOD and the C-suite who continue to thrive in headcount and compensation.
