Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Nepotism

Obvious pattern in the company that if you are the child of someone important in the company there is a high probability you will be hired and then given preferential treatment.

I’ve always thought it must take a special kind of person to want to benefit in this way. Don’t people want to make it on their own? I can’t imagine going to work at a company where my parent was an executive. Just feels wrong.

The short baldies in IT... Who are they connected to?

Hard to take serious when they talk about don’t be bias. Other issues are someone knowing a super/mngr. the work nepotism I think is ki-ling this place more than the family nepotism. People look the other way when that person has no work ethic or doesn’t bring anything to the table.

The best are the secret connections people at large don’t know about and wouldn’t suspect

@3lxp+1qp6UDXM I still can’t believe HR hasn’t done something, not to mention his brother is the Department Head😂 at least move one of them. And they wonder why Management has no credibility place is so corrupt. EMTEC is toast

Very true at Anandale.
You certainly are not going to PIP your brother.
Would not be a good conversation at your next Thanksgiving dinner.

I know a ChemE who was the child of a very high up executive, who was legitimately pretty good. That person left and works at another company. I am almost certain they would have asked their parent for advice, and if that was the decision, how does that bode for rest of us?

I'm third generation with the company, but neither of my parents worked here. I tell my kid to look elsewhere, though, preferably in another industry.

Agree with husband wife combo, expat together (position has to be created for one since the other takes expat offer). Another particular case is husband and wife are in same department and husband is part of leadership team.

Darren Woods was a relative of one of the board members when he hired in. Explains his meteoric rise.

Agree on the husband wife combo in particular with expat positions.

Honestly most of the folks I know that work here that have/had fathers and mothers here are solid. My bigger gripe is with the husband/wife combos. One is always the laggard and gets promoted way up in other parts of the organization.

As my Brutha-from-Anotha-Mutha once told me early in my career: "It's not who you know, but who you blow."

I assume you can’t imagine that, because your dad was a pi-p and your mom a ho. Not very attractive to join that line of business 😂
