Dallas N2 ~> N3

If you work in Dallas your GeoZone is already updated.

Does this mean if you were not already at the minimum of the new TSR you are bumped now?

The geozone is pay affecting so does the company pay starting now or back pay when they decide to make the move?

As of 1/1/24 Dallas is N3.

I thought it goes into effect on March 24th. that way you can get your increase and they don’t have to do it on top of the N3 possible increase. I read another post that only the people below the base get the lift no percentage left for anybody else?

I think most part understand the cost of living versus the cost of labor...The cost of living is the amount of money needed to pay for the basic expenses of living in a certain area. The cost of labor is the total amount of money spent by a company or business on paying its workers.
However, The cost of living naturally effects the cost of labor because workers in areas with a higher cost of living usually require higher incomes to maintain their standard of living. Therefore, companies or businesses have to pay more to attract and retain workers in such areas unless the company does not want to attract or retain it's employees in said area.

One again, geozones are COST OF LABOR based, not cost of living.

I know most of you really struggle with reading comprehension, so here’s a little help for the special ones that keep spouting off which city is more expensive, etc…

Definitions

Cost of living refers to the amount of money a consumer needs to maintain an acceptable standard of living in a specific geographic area. This number is tied to the Consumer Price Index (CPI), and reflects the combined price of food, housing, groceries, transportation, taxes, health services and entertainment.

Cost of labor refers to the cost to hire and retain employees with the education and skills to do a job in a specific industry and geographic location. This calculation is impacted by the availability of talent as well as the “going rate” paid to that talent in a particular geographic market. The cost varies, based on supply and demand.

Which is greater: Cost of living or cost of labor?

The real answer to this question is: it depends. Cost-of-living rates can be far greater than cost of labor, depending on the city. For example, in Boston, New York and San Francisco, cost of living frequently outpaces cost of labor. The difference between the two costs can be attributed to the desirability of these cities. Lots of people live there, which increases the demand for housing, food, entertainment, and all of the other essentials. So, prices for these items follow suit.

It’s also possible that cost-of-living rates can be lower than cost-of-labor rates in particular areas. For example, oil and gas companies are often located in more rural areas, where cost of living is low, but have a lower talent pool to choose from. So, these companies have to pay more to get the talent they need, even when the cost of living in these areas is well below national averages.

Making Dallas ATT HQ is another colossal mistake ...sorry Randall and Stinky....its not even close to being a top city...Dallas is not the center of the universe....Most of ATTs largest customers reside in other geos....Dallas became HQ because of tax breaks...just follow the money and backroom conversations between T and local government..

Sadly, T was once a great company....it is no longer..leadership is abysmal, there is little innovation, 0 revenue growth and all Stinky can do is cut costs...

Think about this..how many senior ATT leaders could land a similar job somewhere else? My guess is less than 5%.... No-one stands up to Stinky as he "transforms" the company into a shell of its former self....sad to see.

and NJ consistently ranks as one of the top most expensive states to live in (taxes, realestate etc etc and is still N3)..Now that is just plain crazy.

You will be brought to minimum pay on March 1. Not backdated.

The problem currently is, it is not a change in payscale….yet

It was already in the works to get Dallas to N3. Decision wasn’t just made overnight. They’ve been talking about it since 2021.

I would caution anyone moving to Dallas from a smaller area to be aware of the possible increase in taxes. The no state income taxes (which is flaunted) might be eaten up somewhat by the property and sales taxes. There is a Robinhood tax which basically takes money from the nicer areas to fund the poorer areas in the state. Obviously the taxes aren’t ridiculous like a California or New York but be aware. Of course if the decision is between having a paycheck or not having one that decision is fairly easy but the past few years those taxes have jumped up. If someone overpays for a home everyone’s taxes in that area goes up.

Meanwhile Atlanta - with higher cost of living,higher housing costs, worse traffic, better economy and more tech jobs remains an N2. How is Dallas and Houston as expensive as New Jersey (also a N3 zone)??? Is it that much more u affordable and tech job competitive than major hub #2?

The answer is a resource ding NO. Dallas is where C-suite management from across the country is replaced after they retire. Dallas is where supervisory management is being driven. This was done to attract supervisory management NOT technical, much needed employees, to relocate. Once again, upper management has ensured themselves a raise. Meanwhile, Atlanta, the major hub for the network employees that actually do the work that runs s the network are overlooked.

If Dallas is N3 how is LA not N4? I guess cost of living in Texas isn’t what it used to be but I assume it hasn’t reached LA/NY levels yet.

More realistic is that the company doesn’t give a cr_p about anyone outside of Dallas or Atlanta.

Pretty sure if you aren’t at the min you will get bumped. It will also impact your raise % next year. Happy for the Dallas folks.

Atlanta and other places with much higher costs of living and generally higher market wages than what ATT is paying got hosed with this change.
