Getting managed out

What do you do if you feel like you’re being managed out, and what are the signs? I am not given clarity on work goals and think I’m going to be the tribute at the hunger games this year. Is there anything to counteract this?

Lots of creds to folks that have replied. They have missed a few.

Overloading you so that you can’t finish all your work. This is to develop a seed list of what you didn’t do even if it’s .01%

Sabotaging your project or assignment behind your back

Lying about your performance

Making up lies about you to other sls

Micromanaging your work list every month with stupid azz one note

Making up BS targets that have nothing to do with what’s important.

If your management arranges Lessons Learned meetings on your project and does not tell you or invite you, there is a target on your back.

@OP "counteract this" either by bending over and grabbing your ankles or better yet a swift kick to your bosses jewels and have him/her/it bend over as you leave with a smile and applause from your grateful coworkers!

Saw the work of a very competent male employee reassigned to a female engineer because she has the right optics or pedigree to present the idea. As a woman, I’m all for leaning in, but I thought this was a bunch of BS. I didn’t care much for this HiPo because she told me to get out of her way on a collaborative effort. Guess she was afraid I would steal some of the limelight. This company promote absolutely the wrong people. And the male employee who did the work, he never got recognized and quit about a year later. I was sad to see him go.

You are being managed out when your project is given to someone with zero competency to do that job. If they succeed, then they get the credit. If it fails, then it’s because you did a bad job laying ground work.

You are being managed out when:

(1) your manager tries to reassign your project(s) and customer accounts to others without giving any reasons.

(2) your manager has meetings without you even though you have relevant information to contribute.

(3) your manager conspires with other managers to gaslight you during annual performance review.

(4) your manager steals your ideas and tells superiors that they were his ideas not yours.

(5) you are now 50 years old and management wants you to retire at 55 not 60.

(6) you are assigned projects that have "zero probability" of seeing the light of day.

When do PIPs get handed out? This will set the deadline for getting a new job. I’ve never received a PIP so I don’t know that timeframe (in before “does this person even ExxonMobil?”)

Documenting it won’t do sh-t. Just accept it for what it is and go find a different job. Quit once you have a new job.

@2mop Company and upper management doesn’t give AF. All you did was stiff the poor ba----d who’s getting your workload dumped on them because these companies won’t hire people to do the job anymore.

This is how they like it. Unfortunatley not a lot of options. If you have a stubborn streak it’s all about time and the work. Find away to enjoy out side work, I know saying and doing are two different things. Or put a plan together and leave.

If you are assigned to EMTEC, you are getting managed out. Period.

@1aiw

yes, do the paper trail. Search for other options, and if you find something before you get ranked, make sure to share the info with HR. Nothing will happen to your manager, but you'll give them slight indigestion. It was my final F*ck You to my boss before I left without doing a job handover and password protecting a bunch of files I was working on. Good luck getting EMIT to give a 5hit!

@1otv+1qq6EEX0. Thanks for the reply. Even if I create a paper trail that I am delivering exactly what I was tasked with, I will be screwed in the relative rank process

Serious response for the OP: most important thing now is not to succumb to any delusion that you can fix it. Pick your best option to move on on your own terms. But fixing it is just not a thing in this company.

Nothing. Just start looking elsewhere or retire. These azzes are very dangerous and looking out for themselves.

@OP+1qq6EEX0 — nice original idea. Are there any XOM process based solutions? I want to avoid shamanistic methods, but I do appreciate the input
