Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

RTO Centers Dallas and Atlanta

I am hearing they are like the Wild West. No seating, loud, lots of commotion. I am currently located in Raleigh but have reservations about actually doing the move to Atlanta or Dallas in the next 60 days. I have a feeling I will move only to get layed off by the end of the year.

Not having assigned seating with your team is really frustrating. I hate having to get in super early to maintain my spot, and I really hate having to transport all my stuff to the office daily. It’s annoying.

Alpharetta was full today. Left for an early lunch and couldn’t believe how full the parking lot was. I almost couldn’t find a spot when I got back. Team meetings? It wasn’t even like this last week. Haven’t sent like this since the start of RTO last year.

I was at the Northpoint office in Atlanta a few months ago. It was quiet (most of the time) and I had no issue finding a desk to work at. The facility was clean and had a nice break area. Everyone working with their noise cancelling headphones on, sending Teams messages to each other. I didn't mind working in that office, but the "collaboration" piece was a pretty minimal. I would have had the same experience remotely.

Lots of other locations have this "no assigned seat" model.

Don't count on being able to find anyone. Don't count on sitting next to the people you work with. Basically, all their BS about "collaboration" falls apart with such a model. That's how you know everything T says is a big pile of shot that is fully meaningless when it comes to how to increase productivity.

I moved to Dallas 10 years ago. It was a lot smaller then. I would not move there now. Good luck.

You are insane if you are even thinking of moving for the company. The only people doing that are the ones with low self worth and think they can’t get a job anywhere else or you know you are working the bare minimum (maybe 20 hours a week on 40 hour pay?) but I can guarantee you’re experiencing more stress dealing with move than if you just got a good job in Raleigh

Don’t move for this company. You will 100% regret it.

So $T threatens termination if you don’t RTO.

Makes you want to quit if you do.

Perfection.

Never relocate unless you want to live in that city. As for it being like the Wild West- Atlanta seems to have calmed down since the summer

This may change very soon. The folks currently in Midtown (less the call center) are moving to Lenox in what looks to be the next 30-90 days.

When the music stops playing, the only seats left will be in Dallas. If you're wanting to stay with T and look for advancement opportunities, you will need to be located in Dallas. Once all the downsizing is complete (end of 2025), T can focus on being great again.

If you plan to either have a career at T or work there for more then a few years move to Dallas. It’s an SBC requirement. Atlanta is only temporary until they run off all BellSouth talent. The problem is that it was all the talent and assets in the SE that have paid for all of Randy’s delusions and debt laden deals. Once depleted your left with the legacy of Mr Ed, first son in law Randy and Uncle Fester.

“ If you have to move, don't pick Atlanta. It is a Tier 1 hub in name only. Eventually, all support/corporate will be in Dallas. You might as well go directly to Dallas and skip the future closing of Atlanta.”
Agree on this. Currently very few job openings in Atlanta. Given the relocation mandates and folks saying no, you’d think there would be a bunch; however, all the openings are in Dallas. I have a feeling when someone quits in Atlanta, the job is opened in Dallas instead. They aren’t backfilling in Atlanta. I could be wrong, but based on these observations I suspect Atlanta’s days are also numbered, just a longer timeline.

Atlanta and Dallas are both great cities compared to Bay Area or SoCal s-holes in CA.

With the cost of rent/mortgage for two places and the cost to travel among other things I think this should be a decision of stay or go. Maybe rent out the old house for income long term but I would not bounce back and forth. It’s not a good financial decision.

Can you keep your place in Raleigh and find a room to rent near Atlanta?

"Never relocate unless you want to live in that city."

Excellent advice, because your fears of being let go after moving are not only valid, but likely. This is not just a T mindset, but seemingly more likely with T these days.

Remember with either choice you’ll be spending 4 to 6 hours on your daily commute and be paying to park your vehicle. Having worked in both Dallas and Atlanta I’d recommend the cowboy choice. Just be forewarned no one cares about rules on the road in TX so drive defensively. Either choice you make I hope you don’t get harassed as most with hundreds of emails from non employees overseas who are a waste of payroll.
Yah, you’ll be laid off because you’re American and AT&T is outsourcing everyone they can.
