Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

RTO Wave One

So, I'm in Wave One. I'm in the Finance Organization (Desroches). My letter was sent out last night. I have until 2/9 to indicate if I will move and I have to move to Dallas by 7/9. No details on Severance at this time.

If you have greater severance than the amount of time you gain by lying, then obviously it makes more sense to take the severance, duh.
If you have less, than it makes more sense to say you’ll move and job search, when you find another job, just quit.
Say you’re sorry but a better opportunity came a long and your plans changed.
How will they know otherwise?
“Oh no they might not take me back!”
And? So? Why would you go back?
There’s other opportunities out there, why would you ever want to go back after they pulled this?

You’re not going to get a violation if you just quit because another better job came along. So if you say you’ll move you’re now married to the company but they can lay you off after you move? Does that seem fair to you?

What is wrong with you people…lol. It’s business, and their only priority is making money, so it should be the same for you. They don’t care about you, at all, so why do you care so much about them?

  • “Not being truthful about relocating is a COBC violation and will lead to your employment record being flagged.”

Who cares?
If you went through this situation with AT&T why would you ever go back?
I’m worried about me and my situation, not the company. They’re screwing me, so sc--w them.

  • “ Hit HR OneStop for the severance policy. You’ll be eligible for severance if you decline the “offer” to relocate/say you won’t move. Then you’ll be cut sometime before the move deadline they gave you. DO NOT agree to move and then don’t. You won’t be eligible for severance if you do that.

Relocation assistance is available only to VPs and there is no guarantee that you won’t be laid off for other reasons as soon as you get there. My advice - decline the offer unless you really want to move to Dallas for purely personal reasons. Then take them for all the training, experience, and resume padding you can get until they pay you to leave.”

Also, who cares? If you have less than 6 months of severance, why wouldn’t you lie and just take the 6+ months to coast while job searching?
Who is gonna stop you? The AT&T police? What AT&T is doing is unethical so be unethical back.

How will they even know? Just say you found a better opportunity elsewhere and your plans changed. End of story.
Ez.
If you’re worried about the company over your own well-being and family, then you’re d-mb.

Moving to Dallas at one point in the past was a good thing, it meant you were moving up in management. Today, it means you’re potentially paying 10’s of thousands of dollars to get yourself to a new office for something that may not last. The one bright side is, if you network like crazy when you get there, Dallas has a lot of other job opportunities.

“ You have til 7/9
Say you’ll move and don’t.”

If you have enough time in to get 6 months of pay, it would be smarter to reject the offer and get laid off.

There is def jobs in finance. we are starting to run thin due to the downsizing over the years and people leaving. So if you go to Dallas your probably safe for some time.

The severance policy is on HR One Stop. It’s also been covered on TH’s.

It’s ez.
Use that time to hit leet-code if you’re a dev and interview your a-s off.
Find a better higher paying position elsewhere.
Quit.
If they get mad, tell them ‘it’s just business, like Stankey said’
Win.

Listen, Dallas is kind of a drag. If your not from Texas, not so good. Get ready to water your house/foundation. No basements. Don't worry about good schools, none of them are. Good luck....just being honest. I did a year there for another company.

“ Wondering......if you were to take the position in Dallas.......was there any guarantee you would have a job for X number of years…”

Really? Are you really wondering if they would be given some kind of written guarantee? You have got to be bleeping kidding me

Wondering......if you were to take the position in Dallas.......was there any guarantee you would have a job for X number of years? Would really be sh---y if you relocated and they laid you off six months down the road.

Wondering?? There is nothing to wonder about, this is AT&T, and yes it would be sh-tty if AT&T laid someone off six months down the road in this scenario. AT&T is very good at being sh---y these days. I would say it is the new core competency after all of the Media ownership failures.
I must ask. Are you new to the company?

“… more transparency would help the morale of the org but I guess we just have to wait.”

Morale.

That’s funny.

Wish you the best. At least you’re hearing info about your org. We are told nothing except people who are leaving — no clue to backfills or who new bosses will be — more transparency would help the morale of the org but I guess we just have to wait.
