Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

UHC Retiree Health Care

So how does everybody like the fact that at&t waffled out of our earned health care benefit & dumped us onto the UHC Advantage plan? I've had UHC in the past & when you have to get pre-approved and denied medical service your only option is to die or seek medical help & sue.
Since we are now paying 100% of our Medicare & Supplement & not being reimbursed as the $2700 did take some of the sting out of our earned benefit.
Note: 4th level & above while active & retired are on a totally different plan. They can see any Doctor, forward their bills to a select dept & are 100% reimbursed. How do I know? My next door neighbor is one of those Doctors in Dallas treating numerous "executives".

Medicare Part-C is great until you need to use it. When you need it, odds are you’ll be denied.

Stick with Part-B Medicare and a medigap part G, high or low deductible.

Some plan have, or did at one time, additional vision and dental benefits and maybe free Silver Sneakers. Not paying for a YMCA or other membership via the SS pays back about 1/2 my premium for the medigap. The small dental and vision benefits refund about 1/4. I use the high deductible option because that’s how I roll.

The UHC plan is a good plan, it is NOT a “typical” Advantage plan. People need to do some basic homework.

I agree to do your research. Medicare just accepts your Doctors recommendations & pays 80%. There is no pre-authorization required and many Doctors accept Medicare, especially if associated with a hospital. Then you get a Plan G who pays the remainder minus the deductible. Advantage plans are not accepted everywhere. In some cases you have to drive long distances to get a Network Doc. Then there's the delay awaiting pre-approval. Advantage is for profit insurance & the profit comes from denials. Medicare is not for profit. Advantage plans are awful and now with AT&T adopting the Advantage plan - AT&T costs them ZERO $$. The plan is paid by the senior paying his premium & the govt paying UHC to offer the NON ADVANTAGE - Advantage Plan.
DO YOUR RESEARCH. I did.
And....There's a reason Stankey and Executives are NOT on the Advantage Plan!

“…if you say anything negative about it, or not even negative but just state facts…”

Problem is, most people DESPISE change and simply cannot come to terms with the fact that T changed the deal on them. I am not a retiree yet, but I monitor those groups and I know who you’re talking about. They can be a little terse. But it is frustrating with so many spouting constant misinformation on there. The UHC plan is a good plan, it is NOT a “typical” Advantage plan. People need to do some basic homework.

You all used to say that we need single payer health care, now. 10 years of Obama are, and this what you get. There shouldn't be any insurance at all. Just a government single payer that covers everything as the tax money comes in.

You might not get care on your timeline, but you won't have to fear layoffs the same way ever again.

UHC is all about signing up as many as possible and denying coverages. Minor items no big deal. More complex or costly items - your out in the cold.
You need a hip replacement? They will send you to therapy for 6 mos.
You have a Kidney Stone - They will deny. Not an emergency, Emergency urologist not in network? You will pay full out of ntwk charges, Doctors & Hospital & tests.
You pass out or have a car wreck and lose some teeth - they will deny & tell you to use your Dental plan even though their documentation indicates this as accident NOT DENTAL. You need a pacemaker, you'll die before you get it unless your cardiologist charges them for practicing medicine without a license.
UHC is 5hit.

"Check out one of the retiree Facebook groups. Lots of info there. I’d just note that most people on the UHC plan seem to be quite happy with it."

The Facebook groups seem so happy with the UHC plan because if you say anything negative about it, or not even negative but just state facts, they either remove your post or deride you for speaking the truth. Honestly, I think the moderator of two of those groups (I'm a member of both) is a paid spokesperson for UHC.

Maybe you should read the details of th e plan. It’s PPO, so you can see any doctor. In network is the best. This plan outdoes any advantage plan on the market. No complaints so far. Some of us still on the regular insurance, first $3000 out of my pocket, then I pay 30% until I get to $7500. Can’t wait until my birthday this year to cut my expenses. All my dr-gs tier 1 no cost, and $10 to see my doc.
