Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Global Downturn or just US?

Where do you see this going overall?
Seems like many companies are laying off full time workers in favor of doubling part timers, making job numbers look better.
Thoughts?

prioritize hiring american workers over h1b visa workers. That is the only way to improve the US economy.

At least make it so H-1Bs aren't tied to a company so the company that claims they can't get the talent otherwise will pay to keep them from moving to another company.

The US has the best GDP growth and lowest inflation in the G7 so if it's happening, it's happening last in the US.

The last President to balance the budget (note the budget is by definition a forward looking plan) was nearly a quarter century ago and Americans will never vote for anyone who would try to do the same. In the mean time the private and financial sectors have severely out-borrowed the US government. I had a lot of family that lived through the Great Depression and were in WWII, and the recent generations that won't give up the small things to stabilize the country are far too soft to face what's coming in the long run.

Looks like America is heading toward a gig economy. Tons of workers without stable employment & benefits, essentially eliminating the middle class.

On a positive, the gig economy should increase anxiety & depression in America. Maybe people will become better consumers if they are anxious?

China is corrupt. Plenty people with plenty of money already flee the country. Why you want to compare with China to begin with?

China can build a 30 mile underground subway system in 1 year, will take united states 100 years to build same underground subway system, or taking united states 100 years to keep taking about to building same system
