Make no mistake, McCullen’s goal is to turn a buck into a profit. Get in and get out as quickly as possible. He’s been asking leaders to identify which jobs can be offshored for cost savings. If you have a job that doesn’t functionally need to be in US for a very specific reason, expect it to be mailed oversees. Oh, and they won’t be using the AT&T severance plan. Here’s your final paycheck and the government unemployment. Don’t let the door hit you in the rear end on the way out.

Good news, you can always come back to AT&T at that point. As long as you will RTO and live in a hub city.

When people feel that they’re being treated like property, to the point they feel the need to explicitly remind HR that they are not slaves to be bought and sold, you get the sense that senior management has lost control of the narrative.

Well, here’s a novel idea: do right by people and then you wouldn’t have to worry so much about parsing your words so carefully to skirt lawsuits.

"Nada, Zilch, Zero its obvious that they could care less for all the affected employees."

It's not that leadership doesn't care. Most have received advice from legal to not put out additional information or make statement. So many employees take statements made in town halls and on earnings calls completely out of context and threaten baseless lawsuits just on this board alone.

"Many of us noticed that our senior leaders were too cowardly to even show up to the calls, where HR mouthpieces were forced to deliver all of the bad news on how AT&T was kicking employees to the curb. Lost benefits. Lost compensation. No appreciation for employees who gave 20 to 30 years of service to this company and our only days away from retirement. could go on and on."

In a normal company , You would have at least expected a meeting to discuss these issues.

Interesting that the announcement of the cyber joint venture only warranted a statement from a low ranking officer and not John Stanley. Tells you all you need to know about how important cybersecurity is to this company.

This is the perfect forum for this discussion. There is nothing proprietary about telling employees that they are being kicked to the curb and cut off from benefits, and being moved to a company that doesn’t even have a name.

AT&T to Create Standalone Managed Cybersecurity Services Business
AT&T to drive network-embedded security innovation

AT&T* announces an agreement to create a standalone managed cybersecurity services business, and a capital investment in that business from WillJam Ventures, a Chicago-based investor with deep cybersecurity industry and leadership experience. At close, the new cybersecurity joint venture will hold select security software solutions, associated managed security operations and security consulting resources. AT&T will retain an ownership stake and board representation in the new entity.

This arrangement will enable AT&T to continue offering Managed Security Services, while simultaneously focusing on enhanced network-based security capabilities.

Why is this important?

Security starts in the network. AT&T is building more security capabilities into its core network and edges. These security services will be ‘built-in’ to our connectivity products, which will create a new category of network-embedded security for small and medium sized business customers. AT&T is currently undergoing controlled introductions for these new products and will have more to share with the market soon.

By bringing together network-embedded security and global managed security service provider (MSSP) capabilities, business customers will have stronger protections and security postures end to end.

This new arrangement helps our customers stay one step ahead of evolving cyber threats. It also allows both entities to foster and accelerate innovation in the cybersecurity space for a broad range of customers around the world.

What are people saying?

“Security has never been more important – to our customers and to AT&T. Our direct focus remains on unlocking the power of our best-in-class connectivity with embedded security features that will allow our network to intelligently protect customers end-to-end. We’re energized about this new business model and the opportunities and capabilities these network enhancements will bring to the market.”

– Rick Welday, Head of AT&T Enterprise Markets

“Today’s cybersecurity landscape is more dynamic and challenging than ever - rapidly expanding attack surfaces combined with an intensifying cybersecurity skills gap are driving businesses to adopt managed security services to safeguard their digital assets. Working together we’ll be uniquely positioned to protect organizations globally and WillJam Ventures is excited to extend our relationship with AT&T as its preferred cybersecurity provider for business customers going forward.”

– Bob McCullen, Managing Partner, WillJam Ventures LLC

Additional Details

AT&T expects the transaction, which is subject to regulatory reviews and customary closing conditions, to close in 1Q24. Additional terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
