The Ford Pinto is universally considered to be the worst Ford of all and possibly the worst car of all time. The Pinto became notorious for its faulty design that caused the car to explode during low-speed collisions! Many of the victims instantly burned to death, as they became trapped in their melting cars. The most damning part of this tragedy was that it could've been prevented. Ford had looked at three possible solutions to the gas-tank problem that was causing these explosions but never implemented them. One solution was the use of a rubber bladder/liner produced by Goodyear. The second solution would've been to add an extra steel plate to the rear of the car just behind the bumper. The third option would've been the addition of a simple plastic insulator to the differential that would've kept the bolts from ever making contact with the fuel tank. Any of these solutions would have prevented the tragic deaths that took place, and the third option would've cost less than $1 per car to install.

pinto: safer than many small cars at the time, safer than motorcycles of today. pinto was a victim of its own success. vw bug would short out the under rear seat battery if you went over a bump with someone in the rear seat. far more fatalities in liteweight datsuns of the era. look it up. 20/20 hindsight is easy.

"For over 4 years, the EV maker has been drawing attention by reporting record-breaking income from selling carbon credits."

https://carboncredits.com/teslas-record-carbon-credit-sales-up-94-year-over-year/#:~:text=The%20automaker%20reported%20a%20revenue,1%2C878%20million)%20%E2%80%93%2029%25.

Hard to measure apples and oranges. But take away the carbon credit voodoo and you get closer. Tesla isn't as fantastic as you think. AND, what happens to the battery pack if you rear end those things? Nobody knows!

Take Tesla's carbon credit game away and it's DOA. As for more successful than a Pinot = wishful thinking. Although with major metropolitan areas forcing BEVs, there could be a chance of notoriety by other means.

Tesla was the only have in town. Easy to turn a profit with a monopoly. Their profitability has been heading down for the last couple of quarters. Due to competition, lack of demand, and increased material costs. I wouldn't down if they start reporting losses again later this year.

Yes, just look at how foolish Elon Musk was, letting Tesla lose money for all those years before becoming profitable. He should have closed Tesla's doors years ago.

@emf+1r2nwRMQ “next Gen 2 products will be profitable in the first 12 months of their launch.”

he also said "... the company won’t go to market with the vehicle unless convinced of profitability, hinting at possible changes to its launch timeline".

Any guesses on new launch timeline?

OP and the other comments here do not know what they are talking about. See this recent comment to the media from JF:

Farley said, adding that Ford’s “next Gen 2 products will be profitable in the first 12 months of their launch.”

I've been saying this consistently and most here don't even listen. Model e will thrice and it all starts with gen-2.

Wrong. It will be even less successful. Pintos had to be rear-ended in order to burst into flames. BEVs just spontaneously burst into flames.

Factually, Model e should be striving to be as successful as the Pinto, of which over 3,300,000 were sold. Model e is at about 100,000 EVs sold, of which 100% have been recalled.

Model e needs to step it up if they hope to ever exceed the popularity and profitability of the Pinto. They should print that on a motivational wall poster.
