Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Ford's Gen-2 Vehicles will be about as successful at the 1984 Ford Tempo.

During the 1980s, the Ford business was struggling to survive, and the Ford Tempo was partly responsible for saving the company from bankruptcy. In 1984, when the Tempo was released, it sold more than 400,000 units that year alone, and then went on to sell almost three million units! Despite this, the Tempo is one of the worst Fords pieces of $hit ever built due to its uninspiring design and a plethora of other problems. The Tempo was also sold as the (nearly identical) Mercury Topaz. It was slow and underpowered with a 90-horsepower, 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine, and a three-speed automatic transmission. The car tended to understeer around corners and would rust easily. Additionally, the Tempo’s gray interior was bland, and the seatbelt system was poorly designed.

@1xpg+1r3fWee8 auto companies seem to like driving themselves into a deep hole so that the next-up executives can look like heroes saving them. it's constant.

History does not tell a good Ford story. With one exception, every "brand new" or "major refresh" vehicles all bite the dust in one form or another. It is a touch of death. It is very predictable.

Only fool will believe.

@jna is that like how DF and JF hinted at the upcoming success of EV's in 2023? How did that turn out? Senior leadership has no now / near / far vision and it's becoming clear to everyone at the company we are simply without functional leadership. JF needs to be fired, months ago.

Not sure what you are getting at about Model e Gen-2, but if you are being negative you are wrong.

Did you listen in to last week's Global Town Hall? Although it wasn't talked about at length, DF and JF both hinted the upcoming success the Gen-2 EV products and services with be with customer delight and profitability.

Was working on Ford's Gen 2 up to just 2 years ago and it was a mess. PA-LEASE stop the BS I keep reading that somehow in just the last couple years they fixed all the problems and will be launching some type of groundbreaking vehicle. Just nore of the same product continuously being tinkered with by senior leadership until they have a quality ridden piece of whatever. Oh sorry, that's right, we hired a bunch of people off the street with no automotive experience and they are some able to launch a vehicle with a knowledge base obtained through osmosis. Cause the they worked at Google and Amazon or whatever.
