Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Stealth or Announced Layoff?

Will this be one of those stealth layoff where the people being cut will get their 1:1, told not have to work any more and then all of the survivors get a meeting invite to talk about how sad it was for out fallen colleague?

Or the more transparent layoff, there they lay it all out for us of when people will be expecting notifications with dates?

@vje+1r4fBMwT The “press” go the info from this site, not real sources. Then every other website copied the article. But Cisco PR did not deny it, which says it’s correct.

This is how this usually works, based on my experience with more than a few of these.

They’ll announce during earnings that there are layoffs coming. There will be broad details as to the objectives of the layoffs and general numbers.

The lists are almost always already drawn up, so people leaders will be informed tonight and will be given the procedure to notify impacted employees. Usually directors and below, and some VPs, have no idea who was picked.

Once the impacted employees are notified, people leaders call their other direct reports to inform them they were not impacted and to please be kind and understanding, etc etc.

Note that some impact notifications may lag, particularly in countries with more robust labor protections where unions or work councils have to be involved.

The only differentiator will be if the lists aren’t drawn up yet, but they’ve made a decision to lay off, in which case that will be disclosed (since it has to be, and if it’s not an analyst will ask and they have to fess up on the call) l and we’ll wind up in this sh---y limbo waiting for the hammer to drop. The last time that happened it was a sh-t show all around, so I hope they’ve done what they can to avoid it this time.

May the odds be ever in your favor.

You have to wonder who, exactly, is the source of the leaked information to the press — and how much of it was leaked purposefully by the ELT vs. chatty people in the know feeding their buddies info… There would be SEC implications in some cases...

Generally, managers are encouraged to hold a team meeting with those not affected to give them the all clear, at least for this round.

That was never the case in the past.

So the ones been laid off will be notified by 1:1 meeting with manager on Thursday? Is my understanding correct?

The layoffs will be announced as part of the press release with Q2 earnings (Wednesday afternoon Eastern time). However it’s already been in the media for over a week so everyone paying attention knows. The folks being laid off in Canada and the US will be notified Thursday. Generally, managers are encouraged to hold a team meeting with those not affected to give them the all clear, at least for this round.
