Considering the source of the data breach, it was not a surprise. At another U.S. company, the same 3rd party was involved in a breach. Apparently, the cost to outsource does not pay off when data security is gambled. There should be U.S. laws against non-U.S. entities having access to "Production" data thus protecting "Real" customer information. However, we know how the music is played in corporate America.
There's a lot of things I dislike about our employer but it does put a lot into governance around access and security. If anything, we have too much red tape. Guessing there will be an ugly price paid by app managers out there with more policy and red tape coming.
