Pigeonholed in job?

I have been in my job with for multiple years now and my production is good. I have had exactly two pre-interview phone calls in all that time applying for different roles despite applying for at least 50. Is it a common practice of WF to pigeonhole people in jobs, a result of offshoring efforts, to force attrition, or am I being passed over for more "diverse" and "equitable" applicants? It seems every single application I apply goes directly into the paper shredder.

Over time, roles at Wells become highly specialized, and Wells doesn't really invest in training its workforce. This results in being less competitive in the job market.

I’m a “diverse” candidate and in the same boat. So it’s the WF culture. I’ve often felt I was used as a diverse candidate and not chosen. So it goes both ways. These managers already know who they want and need to stop fake posting. It’s all a sham process. You get NO real feedback and they have a fake script to tell you the person was more qualified/had more experience. Well why did you interview me? You saw my resume at the onset.
Tenure = no growth

Are you a white male? In 2021 while 32% of the US was white male, an article showed HR bragging that 83% of new jobs and promos went to women and minorities. That means 17% were to white males. So, if you are a white male all else equal, you have a much lower chance of getting promo or job at the bank.

Stating facts folks.don’t attack the messenger. It could be all white males are cr-ppy employees so they aren’t hired.

As a "diverse" candidate, we don`t get automatic consideration for job postings. There is a lot of competition for these roles. And like previously stated many managers already know who they will hire for the role. I have seen this firsthand. So instead of blaming DEI you should probably work on building your network.

Best way to get another job here or anywhere these days is to connect directly with the hiring manager before a role gets posted. You want to be thought of before tons of people apply.

A company that is militantly opposed to promoting internal people, and will only acquiesce if they can pay them much less then an external, is definitely going to pigeon hole a lot of employees. There's also strong institutional resistance to hiring from other LOBs, in the vast majority of cases you won't even get an interview or serious consideration. Jokes on them though, I already have the only job I want here and I have zero interest in leaving without a years severance. Pay up Shart, or leave me the he-l alone. Your attempts to harass employees to leave only makes me more determined to land that severance. He-l, I might even push back my retirement a few years in the hope that you'll pay me to leave rather than walking away for free. FHY.

20+ years here, pigeonholing is one of WF's core values.

In a nutshell, yes.
I guess they are working on it but I haven't seen any openings.

From what I've heard, especially as of late, is that there are a TON of applicants for every open job (especially any job that sound desirable) so the competition is likely much more than it was in past years. It wouldn't be surprising if you were applying to jobs with 40+ applicants.

There are also a lot of managers who still post out despite already having a candidate in mind, and despite the fact that managers are now allowed to do direct hires. I personally haven't heard of many managers taking advantage of that, for some reason.

Are you in a core location of the business group you’re applying for? Have you attended the resume workshops where the WF recruiters give advice on what they look for in resumes? Don’t rely on what google searches say about resume best practices. Have an unbiased HR person review your resume and job posting to give you specific guidance.

But yes, certainly possible you’re being passed over because you don’t fit a category they are looking for (despite the protest that WF doesn’t do that…). Or the hiring managers already have preferred candidates at the onset, which is annoying and happens more often than we think. Or maybe the skill set you’ve outlined in your resume just isn’t matching with these jobs, regardless of the number that you applied for. It’s tough in and out of the bank right now.

@urt+1r5hhgOO Only little tidbit about that is that affirmative action is written into law to exclude certain candidates based on their race.

Perhaps it’s because interviewers can detect that you’re the kind of person to fall back on culture war rage bait excuses rather than introspection
