Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Location strategy

What would happen to me as I am working 100% remote from south carolina and My friend is 100% remote from michigan? Are we enforced to go to the hubs?

That's not two different strategies, it's one layoff strategy. It shouldn't be shocking, it's literally all HY knows how to do.

There are two different things happening here. Expense reduction and location strategy. Let's say you need to drop 10 people. You have 5 remote workers. Generally, those 5 will be displaced with no offer for relo and another 5 that live in a core market will be gone as well.

If the facts are different - say 10 remote but you only need to shed 5 positions you would identify 5 people who would be targeted for displacement. In that case, no relo would be offered. The remaining 5 could be offered relo. If they decline, their positions could get backfilled since the position didn't go away.

You will be let go, and personal belongings auctioned off in the cafeteria.

Then it's not a location strategy. 😉

You don't get to decide.

WF will determine if you're offered relocation (WF picks the site, not you), if you're allowed to commute longer distance to hub location, or if you're simply displaced.

You have NO control.

I'm getting Fd with RTO, but I still wish the WFHers well and hope to join them as soon as possible. We need less offices. They waste way to much money for no benefit.

seems the LOBs who have communicated and already started making moves (consumer lending) are starting with remote workers within 40mi.of a core/specialty hub. They will soon be given 60 days to get in the office. Remote workers outside a core/specialty hub will come later and in most cases will be let go. I'm sure a select few with very niche skills will be able to get an exemption or asked to relocate, but if you are remote and not close to a hub your days are likely numbered.

If I have to go into the office then you have to go in too. I don’t care where you live. Misery loves company. Sorry!

Depends entirely on your lob and role, but the "location strategy" is actually a downsizing/outsourcing strategy. They don't actually want you to work in a different location, they want to get rid of you. The vast majority of people termed for this reason are not given the option to relocate to what they claim is a go forward location, even if you volunteer to do so. That tells you everything you need to know.
