Thread regarding Ford layoffs

RTO announced in our "fully remote" org

3 days week in an org where the leader has been staunch that we are a remote org.

This sends the message that no org is safe from RTO. If your area hasn't instituted 3 day a week mandatory RTO then it's just a matter of time.

What ever happened to the "Just Say No To RTO" guy on this forum??

He used to drop that line at the best times....

I'm on CV. Who is with me in defying this? If we could get 90% of us to just say no to RTO, they can't fire us all!

Let's unite and WFH everyday!!

The funniest part of this joke is that today we arrived at a conference room onsite to hold a meeting that also supported webex, only to find that the phone was missing and the seats were absolutely filthy and in disrepair. It felt like we were sitting in an office supplies salvage yard. The building I work in is an absolute pit ... it's filthy, and nearly every work station lacks network and electrical connections, clean seats, secure storage, and so on. Wanna know why quality at Ford is struggling? It's not because we lack suitable work stations, it's because we lack a management team that can properly plan an appropriate return to office. Offices are easy ... if they can't get that right, how can they possibly sustain the long term profitable growth if a company like Ford?

Painting with a broad brush and saying 3 days/week for everyone is not a good solution.

Remember when they opened the campus back up, they gave clear guidelines that we should only come in for purpose-driven, collaborative activities. Many teams (including mine) have followed that guideline ever since. Yes, it makes sense to come together for planning activities, design discussions, etc. No, it does not make sense to drive to the office and sit on webex meetings all day. They should focus on teams which are not following these guidelines and make corrections.

If the leaders were smart, they would have ensured a good merit and bonus, and then proceeded with the RTO mandate. People would have been in a better mood and more receptive.

I find trolls like Henry below so interesting, and it seems like jealousy more than anything else. You would rather go into the office everyday and have nothing better to do with your time than waste hours each week commuting? You would rather go into work to sit on webex meetings than do the same at home? It is possible to do certain jobs to the same degree, or better, remotely vs in-person. Not everyone who works from home is a slacker but clearly they exist and they’re dragging everyone down with them.

Sorry but quality has been an issue long before 2020…

"The best thing you can do is be prepared to quit if it doesn't fit your lifestyle."

The fact that this take got even 1 down vote is telling. Someone doesn't like thinking for themselves and thinking independently. Hopefully a bot...if not I guess it's someone that thinks like one.

FTR, our LL3, who is southern based, had been insistent that we (CV) were considered fully remote. Until this week when a 3 day in office expectation starts in March. He wasn't happy about it, but it is out of his hands.

So not fake news.

It’s meaningless, very org will allow exceptions and those who really want to stay at home just keep saying “I have an appointment later so I’m just working from home this morning” or “I’m trying to get some quiet time to focus, so will work from home today”.

It’s also a farce that you lose your best people with RTO, my best team members this past year were the ones who already returned to the office. They care the most responsive and contribute the most. All my TAs for last year were in office people.

Ford is just following the footsteps of other companies, 3 days in office and 2 days WFH. Other departments are 1 day office, 4 days WFH.

RTO will always be with us. Unfortunately, we seem to let go of the brightest stars with the most knowledge, and in the end, we are reinventing the wheel.
