PIP

Instead of being Riff’d, I was terminated early this year because of a manufactured PIP. Has anyone else experienced this? There is a legal claim in progress and looking for anyone else that has gone through this and can share?

I read so many of these posts and I just want to say welcome to earth what planet do you hail from?

They changed your job from what they originally sold you? That is every job in the US ever without a union contract and I bet most of those do a little bit of change too at least in focus areas.

My job has changed a dozen times since I worked here different titles, different groups, different managers, and even when all stayed the same my job still change because VZ decided. I’m just another employee that they move around whenever they feel like it for whatever reason they want.

PIP should have defined measure. You had x time to meet those measures right? Did you meet with the boss alot to go over progress or just not do anything for x time and get fired? It is unfortunate for you and maybe you’ll get something from your legal action besides bills from you attorney but the PIP was your notice of meet the standards or your out. Many people just get fired suddenly and don’t have a long notice oeriod to find another job.

The answer is that no one can force you to do anything.

The company can require you fulfill a certain role (they can change your role anytime), and you can tell the company to kiss off and go find another job.

Simple see?

The guy who said if you're fired for being on pip you shouldn't be in sales? What about people who were customer service, forced to become sales and then given PIPs for low performance in a job they didn't agree to do?

Do you have smart response for that too?

PIP just means a company wants you gone and will find the most minuscule garbage to hack at you for. Since the "plans" have specifics, you'll be able to notice pretty quickly if it's a "i hate you" vs a "you aren't doing work".

if its a document you did 6 months ago and no one's commented on it, after you received a positive performance review? #1.

If its something you did last week? still #1 honestly lol, they've just been building a case.

Youd know if a decent manager thought you weren't doing work.

I’ve seen PIPs used by Mgt with good intentions and also used as a separation tool. However, the odds are NEVER in the employee’s favor. You should have put your exit plan in place at the first mention of PIP and then worked your PIP to the best of your ability to buy you some time while securing a new gig.

If you get fired for being on a PIP you are basically terrible and should not be in sales.

PIP is the new way Verizon uses to get you out the door. @2C you are 💯. What do you mean by use your legal benefits?

Whats funny is the pip is way.to try and get you out legally but use your legal benefits too.works both ways stress is real and dangerous & if they truly gave a damn about mental health they would know.

You have better odds at winning the lottery. Vz has HR lawyers that will make it extremely difficult and time consuming to ever get a nickel. Your best path forward is to move on and find an employer to put your skills to better use. Good luck!

I see several comments suggesting it’s “very hard” to get terminated for performance.

It would be extremely helpful for OP to share line of business (VCG, VGS, GNT, etc) and pay band.

This will give us a good idea of OP’s work environment. Non union and in a call center or a retail store? PIP and out the door is entirely believable.

HR makes it next to impossible to fire someone even on a pip. Odds are you were very well informed of what was going on.

Performance improvement plans do not come out of the blue. If you've not been coached on this at all prior to termination, you may have a case. Otherwise, you better believe they have the documentation to substantiate the termination. As someone else said, termination for performance generally isn't a thing (i.e, they give you a chance to improve). Termination for cause (fraud, etc) is another story.

If you're a 7V or 6V, it were not the first or last to get fired vs. RIF. However, if you have proof that it was bogus, suggest you speak with a labor attorney.

RIF had to be something really serious or ignorant. It is really difficult to get fired for day to day or performance, unless that performance was fraud. They will make your life miserable and stressful so you will quit before the fire you. You will have to quit because all thr write-ups would have tarnished reputation making nearly impossible to get out. Knew of a b2b rep that missed quota for the entire year was written and pip numerous times until they finally got approval to pull the trigger another 4 months after.
