Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Use this time to look for a new job

Too many people wait until they're laid off to start searching. It'll never be easier to find a job than when you have one.

You see, just because I know it's coming does not necessarily mean it's better to jump ship. (Case in point: me)

With what I make now, if I jump ship, I may not make much more. Given my own situation (family, financial and work location), it may be a wash. Most likely it'll worse because the extra expense of the new job will be compensate by a salary bump, if any.

There's no reason for me to do the job for them to remove myself from the equation. Let them figure out how to balance it!

Some of us wants the severance though. We do want to chill for a few months.

The job market is absolutely brutal. 500+ applications for each position I see posted.

I have no plans to stay in banking/finance. I'm ready for a career change after 20+ years for something more rewarding. This will require going back to school and the severance will take care of the bills while I do.

I see so many candidates in my interviews that it is unreal.
I question labor shortage a fantasy, or an excuse to import more employees.

Living this topic yet haven't applied despite knowing a layoff is likely. The reasons for hestitation are vast. Maybe some of you are also in the same boat.

  • Lack of interest/burnt out in current job, do I want to keep going down this path?
  • What companies would I be even interested in working for?
  • WF is not a professionally challenging place to work, anxious about proving my value
  • Do I have confidence in a land of uncertainty? What is it that WF didn't appreciate that another employer would?
  • Is it realistic to open my own shop?
  • How can I be above the fray, minimize dwelling in all that is wrong at WF?
  • All smart people somehow have this way of recognizing the bad and quickly choosing to compartmentalize and focus on what's really important. WF complaining is really personal and often petty. I need to find a way to make better choices, there is no honor in staying on a sinking ship when there are plenty of life rafts around.
  • Manifesting my own success. There is merit in telling yourself what can be even if completely unrealistic. If I even get 50% of what I think is the ideal future, that is a huge win. How do I keep this mindset despite all of the buzzards flying around?
  • When it comes down to it, I need a wake up call, to be reminded what it means to be a professional as an adult again. WF treats its employees like children, all middle children in fact. Time to start fighting again for something.
