GR12 here and willing to take a pay cut to GR8 to keep working for the next 5yrs. Over 50 w/male, so once I'm they chop me, my prospects of finding a similar role are slim. I don't want to work at walmart/home depot or other menial jobs. Will Cisco accept my "offer" to help cut expenses? Would you rather make $85k/yr after a pay cut in your current job at Cisco or $35k doing general labor jobs?

Get a job with the state or feds. They'd appreciate some that actual does work.

be a fool if you want , youre over 50 so you should know better, sure every WM is on the chopping block but play your cards, no one cares for you, but theres plenty room at the party , just get off the couch and rub some elbows, youre not dead yet. and what do you think is going to happen a over 50 in a grade 8, you might as well call HR and complain about your boss, better chance of that working out than going down grade.

I saw the writing on the wall once I got into my late 40s. You never saw older people coming in, all you saw were young(er) people coming in as new hires.
It was at that point I shifted my financial priorities and began wailing away on any and all debts and bolstered up liquid cash savings (not just my retirement accounts).
This change allowed me to take the 2020ish ER and retire at 55.
I may go back to work at some point but only where the priority isn't money but what I doing and what I am contributing to my community.
Engineering skills don't matter at Cisco. All that matters is politicking and PPT creation. Excel at those two things and you will be going places at Cisco.

Updating one's skills doesn't happen by spending a few days with a book. It's refining new skills over years through not just practice but proper feedback.
There is definitely age discrimination but less than people think. In engineering most get promoted about 3 times to Senior Engineers (Engineer 4 at Cisco) and you either shift into management or rot until no one can stand the smell. Cisco is unique in that they've split every title into many levels to create the illusion you're getting promoted frequently so you may have a Principal Engineer 43 who is not capable of performing the actions listed for any of the engineering titles Cisco has. If you can't meet the requirements for any engineering title engineering is no longer for you.
During last ER, Cisco offer pay cut and reduce working hours. I am regret not choose it. Even I knew the working hours will not reduce !
I kind of believe Cisco is cutting those who has higher salary, to avoid this risk we better not let Mgr raise your salary. LR's this time Too late for me.

Troll. There's no way Cisco will hire you at a G8 if you're a G12 currently. You'd be "over-qualified".
And I certainly make way more than $85K as a G8.
