Dump Splunk

Well I guess it’s too late. That $28b could have been used to fix our networking business, but instead it was flushed down the toilet.

...we completely missed the trend of the cloud, and now is AI.

It's the stupid leading the stupid.

There is a non-trivial chance Cisco has already spent more than $28B on customer found defects. They've definitely spent way more than that trying and often failing to fix bugs. The networking business has most definitely not been fixed. The problem isn't money, it's the people.

Google had skills in a massively built out world wide network serving much of the planet and in 2022 they were 9% of the cloud. IBM and Oracle have far more systems experience than Cisco ever did as well as major applications customers need and they are both very low single digits of cloud. Cisco was never going to be a cloud company. As for AI, it's a buzzword. What Cisco needed was engineers with business experience beyond the relatively simple speeds and feeds so they could develop the management and security features they've failed at for decades. If they knew what they were doing back then they'd be able to see how to include newer technologies like AI to better solve those problems as time went on. Again, the problem is the people.

You waste money to fix a business. The business makes money or dies. Time for the network business to die. How many switches does the world need anyways. I think we are good for switches. Make something else you dinosaur.

Expensive network equipment vendor meets expensive data analytics vendor for fun times initially but ultimately resulting in getting laid (off)

The company was inefficient because it was highly bureaucratic, we completely missed the trend of the cloud, and now is AI.

What is the disadvantage of Splunk?
Common disadvantages of the technology include:

Deploying Splunk can become $$$$$expensive$$$$$$ when managing large volumes of data. Optimizing searches to improve speed can be tricky and impractical. The tool's dashboards are not as reliable as other tools such as Tableau.
