Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Veterans

They do nothing to retain veterans ! They advertise everywhere they do but I am a veteran and got laid off. The person in the VA department said they don’t do anything like that! Like what? Keep veterans employed? Exactly!

cug here…

I’m not a noob here. Not even close. ;) Just tired of hearing all the grandstanding about what role, company, military branch or wherever someone got their great idea from. Just focus on the actions and idea. Yes, prior experiences are helpful but your 20 years in the military or how you invented the WF wheel are not. And also I’d challenge that even if it was tried before, so many variables are new today vs then so it’s fair game for consideration.

The point is leave the grandiose background company name drops for interviews and get to the actual suggestion and action items. New person, seasoned person - applicable to all.

@kgc+1rDgZmCV aka I'm a Vet...

We all ebb and flow with those feelings and only the folks who really need worldly affirmation tout their experience.

You are wrong however in the sense that veterans, especially disabled ones, are a protected class and have explicit procedures in how to lessen the displacement burden, NOT totally skirt it.

Read the handbook and then give me 10 pushups

Yeah, well, you know what else no one wants to hear? The ignorant noob promoting their latest "great plan", which happens to be something others thought of long ago and know full well from actual experience that it did, and will again, fail miserably and at great cost. When you relay that experience said noob then gets B hurt and claims that you're "resistant to change", as if opposing failed ideas or raising a hand to identify risk is a bad thing.

Vet here, yes, no one owes me anything, I don’t expect anything from anyone. Glad to have a job, even one at Wells Fargo.

I am not happy to say this, but the USA owes you a huge debt for your service. If it was up to me we'd fund whatever programs vets need from the bloated defense budget instead of having vets rely on charities.

But Wells is a private company, they owe you nothing.

It's not right, I'm not saying that, I'm just pointing out that Wells did not promise you a job if you served.

And again, I really, really didn't like saying that.

Most people think Capitalism means freedom, it doesn't, it means you are at the mercy of people with the Capital.

Give a hungry man a sandwich and he's not hungry, give a thirty woman a cool drink and she's no longer thirsty.

But give a rich person money and they want more money.

US Vets: thank you for your service to our country. I am sincerely grateful for your contributions and sacrifices.

US Vets that I work with at WF: for the love of god, PLEASE stop talking about “what I did in the military” and just produce what is asked and truly needed. Same for those who say “when I worked at Chase” or “in WF 10 years ago when I invented the wagon wheel”. It’s annoying. No one wants to hear that. Great ideas are always welcome but skip the useless self promotion. You got the job already, for whatever reasons (hopefully your business experience) so just keep the histrionics and last employer or military rank out of it.

If anyone is facing harassment or discrimination/retaliation, veterans are definitely a protected class. Most lawyers will take your case. Talk to an employment attorney. And yes, all lip service. So tired of seeing the bs posts from Wells on social media. What a dumpster fire.

As a vet, I agree. The problem is that WF PR likes to give lip service to loving vets and it's just that, lip service. If the truth is that they care about us the same as every other employee (read: not at all) then just say so.

They do targeted recruiting of veterans but once one is hired they still have to earn their pay like everyone else. Veterans are not exempt from location strategy nor efficiency reductions. I’ve worked with some really good veterans, and some really bad ones (including one that I just displaced). Service does not guarantee permanent corporate citizenship.

Full disclosure: I’m a Vet

Why do you think ANY veteran should get any preferential treatment? So many of you run around with puffed up chests and DV plates for your ED problems expecting free handouts. Your handouts were your base pay, BAS/BAQ and pay riders like Hazard or Aircrew pay. GTFO. You want extras use your preference status to get a GS job somewhere.

You survive that rough war on terrorism in Desert Storm? You guys lost lot of folks over there!! FFS, get up, step away from the keyboard and go enjoy your free breakfast at IHOP for being a 6 year E4.

Veterans should be included in layoffs just like everyone else. No discrimination.

They really don't care about anyone outside of HY. Minorities and protected classes are just there for lip service, same with the non-protected class types. We're all equally sc--wed.

2 veterans were laid of 2 years ago on my team, and one last year. I'm the last veteran on my team and was told I'm next to go sometime in April or May of this year. I know how you feel on how they speak about helping vets but in reality the bottom line is all about the Benjamin's.

They don’t appreciate veterans and they don’t appreciate employees. It’s sad what has happened. Sorry OP. Thank you for your sacrifices and I hope you find something quickly that’s even better.

The vibe I’ve gotten from recruiters in the past is to never let a veteran slip through the cracks during the hiring process. Pretty much a shoe in for a job at WF.

The layoff process is brutal unfortunately and no one is 100% safe (though checking off the right boxes may save someone when it comes to those 50/50 decisions)
