I treat it like a bonus (same with the bonuses), don't need it but it is nice to be able to use that money for my self directed Roth IRA
My stock together payout this year is less than half a paycheck for each grant maybe close to a quarter.it was more than my annual pay increase though.
talk to your union rep, management has this. I made 15% of my salary this year on stock together
Discounted stock isn’t a stock option it is an espp or employee stock purchase plan.
An option has more in common with the stock together garbage except worse for a VZ employee. if they gave us option on friday the strike price would have been $40. After a certain time one would generally exercise the option and get the difference between the strike price and the current price. If the price doesn’t go up the option expires worthless.

The 2 responses have no idea what stock options are. A lot of telecoms offer stock options. Comcast has one where you can contribute up to 20% of your pay and you buy stock at a 15% discount.
I agree with op, it’s a standard benefit offered by many companies.
OP: agree!! Time to introduce some changes to employee compensation.
The VZ stock may not appreciate fast on an upward trajectory however, it needs to be an added compensation, as an inspiration, and not as a subtraction and not as a substitute, to the current employee compensation model.
Why so they can expire worthless or if we are lucky a few dollars a share? This isn’t a stock that soars like tech companies it is a dividend stock that tries not to sink.
