Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Recently had my phone crash. Since I don’t buy the expensive phones I found a A14 unlocked phone online at Walmart. Ordering process was pretty simple and straightforward. However the activation was a nightmare. Took it to AT&T store and the young man put in a new SIM card, told me it was working as he had moved my contacts over and I could finish the setup. WRONG. Got home and couldn’t call out. Called AT&T prepaid and got messages to take it to the store I had purchased it from, Walmart. Went to store and he said they no longer did activations. He referred me to another store, same deal. He referred me to another store. Asked him if he knew for sure they would be able to help. He was honest enough to say he had no idea. Decided to take it back to AT&T store. Was told the Sim was defective. They replaced and asked me to try and make call. Called wife and it worked. Came home and the only number I could call was my wife’s. Since it was Sunday they closed at 6 pm. Finally called the regular customer service (and by this gentleman’s accent he was overseas). He took the time to get my information and got it working. Made my first stop after church and it was approximately 7 pm before I got it working. Will say the people at the AT&T store were courteous but obviously not thorough. Took someone who was probably overseas to make it work. My first trip to the AT&T store I was the only customer so it’s not like they were trying to get to other customers. Numerous trips, phone calls, including Samsung, and I spent a stupid amount of time to get a working phone. Probably a outlier so it doesn’t affect their customer experience data. Sorry for the long vent but feels better getting it off of my chest. Ha….

I cringe at the thought of having to deal with any T customer service people including Directv. I am an Apple phone person and that is why my family buys our phones directly from Apple stores. At least those employees are truly experts. It is truly a shame what AT&T has become
