Camden outlook?

What's the future for the Camden NJ location? It used to be a powerhouse but now seems to be struggling to survive.

Two RIFs in less than 2 months in Camden. It looks like if you are on indirect at all, you are a target. Down to barely 150 engineers there. Is the ship sinking?

Frankly, it's said they just don't rip the band-aid off at Camden. Terminate the contracts that are low $ (eat the money versus charging it off to EAC's each month), transfer what can be transferred and severance folks out. Camden's image is already damaged, and the company can't afford to rebrand it. Not sure why people keep thinking they can polish a tu-d the last 2 years. It's embarrasing.

Word is the company is trying to work around the unions. Even having meetings trying to figure out how to. Production work continues in the A&E and there is no stopping it. Soon it will be just engineering and development left in The A&E. Operation Production will move to various sites, including Canada and Va. Board work will eventually end up in Rochester or FL. And all the transferred Ayer work will be transferred back out.
For the last few years Matt Long and the QC management were digging the hole and NOW Tierney is upset....And the mess is left to clean up.... Good luck Camden

Some will get bad news in Clifton today. Others will get it on the 12th. Manufacturing defects continue to plague the biggest EW contract which is already years behind schedule. Some "non-touch labor" people will go soon. Middle management and non-leadership positions are top-heavy and will be trimmed down. Somebody's got to get the blame and they're not going to lay off assemblers or test technicians, quality inspectors or their direct supervisors. They're going to go after planners, "assistant" project leaders, depot ops and non degreed "manufacturing engineers". If you don't physically handle the product, you're on thin ice. The investor's call is less than a week away and they want jobs cut. Melbourne will give it to them.

Camden has been living off its old glory for some time now. Its maritime comms and related domestic businesses are struggling - they have not won any new business in a long time and their performance on current contracts is atrocious. They’ve even had a large contract cancelled for poor performance and suffered losses on major bids. The division leadership is incompetent and arrogant. They think they can command 20%+ profit on bids with their high costs in an increasingly competitive environment. The only bright spot is the international business which is mainly run by the MAPPS organization based in Canada with an excellent track record of success - but Camden may cause real damage to the international business and it is best to separate the international businesses from Camden to spare them the harm we are causing to them

There's no need to have the Camden factory any longer given the high rates, unionization constraints and Florida-centric manufacturing constraints (fly out of aging technology). The administration building is 1/3 sublet out to a health company and remaining space on another floor being given over to other entities. The remaining floor is vastly underutilized. The amount of revenue coming in, regardless of Camden being the division's hq, foreshadows that it will be chopped within then next year.

Shutting the whole place or only the factory?

ramping down before shutting down for good. this will happen up in Clifton too. as the company contracts more of its manufacturing down to florida, these outposts will all close. it has been the ambition and the business model for the past 5 years. the pandemic has put a delay on the inevitable. but, they have seemed to have gotten back on track.
