Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Why are there so many managers remote when they are managing large teams?

I see so many managers that are remote or practically remote, because their entire team is located in a different city/state than them. Many of these managers are not even in hubs.

Why doesn’t the location strategy apply to them? Is it just to drive up attrition amongst the peasants?

It's pretty funny how some people think that managers are exempt from anything the POSs in HY do. Even directors aren't exempt. Managers? Pfffft. Any exceptions you know of will be eliminated in the next couple of years. Will you feel better then? There's only two groups at WF, executives and the plebes they want to get rid of.

FHY, FCS, FRTO, and FLS.

location strategy (including FT remote) applies to managers. I know several who are impacted. remote work is being exited, just the "how" and "when" depends on OC, geography and accommodation if any.

If remote and not within 40 miles of a go-forward location - relocate or be severed (and for some, no option to relo), notified when your OC does their location strategy notifications, first one is supposed to be in the april-june timeframe. There will be more than one "wave" of these notifications so not everyone will get caught in the first one.

If remote and within 40 miles of go-forward location - RTO (this has happened in CSBB already), different LOB/OC are on different schedules for this.

If you have an approved accommodation, it will not "save" you from location strategy. It can buy you time if you are 40 miles or under from a go forward location - but all accommodations are subject to periodic review and they are getting stricter and stricter about what circumstances allow WFH accommodations.

It will be a very different picture by the end of this year, you will rarely see FT remote ppl.

OP
Face it, their managers like them more than your manager likes you. Remember the question, Do you have a buddy at work? Well your Buddy isn't in a power position or doesn’t like you.

boo hoo, it appears someone is getting something I am not. How do you know they are remote? Are they listed as remote in Teamworks or do they have a medical accomodation you are aware of? My guess is you see some managers on meetings or town halls that are at home, but how do you know it isn't a work from home day of them?

Even if every manager receives an exception and could work from home, it doesn't change the fact that there will always be someone who has something you don't. If you want that something then work towards getting it instead of complaining about what you don't have.

Managers are all being given remote exception and will not RTO. Move on.

Don’t worry, everyone within a commutable distance to a core office will be called back in, regardless of manager or IC. Take another look at locations at the end of this year and you’ll see a very different story.

It will eventually hit everyone in someway. Those people just haven’t been impacted yet. Move on and worry about yourself and stop whining about what someone else may or may not have.

For Christ’s sake, why on earth would you think the same rules apply to managers?

Managers succeed at WF by building the hierarchy underneath them. They are very good at this. Proof? Well, look at the recent foray into "agile". Agile is supposed to get management out of their ivory towers and communicate in standup to their teams. Did that happen? No.
Regretfully WF went out and hired yet another layer -- the "scrum managers".

Both my manager and his manager appear to go into the office regularly. My manager is the only one on our team at his office, glad he’s seeing how stupid the whole thing is also.
This is why I will never go above and beyond any more, which is sad after being here for 7 years now. Employee morale has fallen in so many areas, this was the coffin nail.

"It's always for thee and not for me " attitude, there is one manager who started in SF now she's remote in Monterey. She will be an exception to the rule

What about mangers that have less than the required 7 direct reports. Got a boat load of them crawling along. Hey Chuckie put them on the board for execution while you are at it.

They will be impacted too. Why do you think they won't be?

Location strat definitely applies to managers. In case you haven't figured it out yet, even directors have no power at WF anymore. There is a small core group which doesn't even include the entire OC that actually has power. Literally everyone else is just passing down (stupid) orders from that vote group. We're all plebes OP. Hopefully that makes you feel better as we all head to the unemployment line.
