Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

The AT&T RTO Problem

Saw this buried in this forum and had to elevate it. It's EXACTLY why we hate RTO. Why RTO is counter-productive to our company's productivity and is cultivating a culture the company really should not want.

"I've worked in the software profession for decades. I worked for two major companies prior to ATT. I've had cubicles and I've had private offices. But I always had a place to sit. If people wanted to collaborate, they knew where to find me. What we have now is ridiculous. Software professionals really can't be productive in what ATT is offering as "Return to Office". There is no office. There isn't even a cubicle where you can have a little bit of privacy and a little bit of consistency. People need that to think and to create. Not being thrown into an open air mass of tables and chairs where someone is accounting for you coming and going. ATT is not treating its professionals as professionals. So it's no wonder that people aren't acting like the professionals that they can be. "

Agree with everything. The people at the top are immoral, selfish, greedy, lying sc-m. The worst if the worst. I spent far too long in disbelief - “they can’t really be this evil, can they?” Oh, yes they can. Every time you think they couldn’t sink lower, they do. The absolute worst thing about it? They don’t have to! The company is not and never has been on the brink if anything. Plenty of money to pay severance, relocation expenses - you name it. And that’s what makes them truly evil. They know, and do not care. Listen: they do. Not. Care. No empathy whatsoever.

Ground work implemented by the other garbage John ......Donovan . Copied other tech corps after a decade and everyone pretty much was ok this is new but the environment is a terrible workspace . Office space needed not a Starbucks-dorm lounge. Id--t Donvan toured 2020 work spaces and noticed very few people utilizing them. Of course , he saw the writing on the wall took his $$$$$$$ and jumped for lifeboat .

The old sayings, Don’t believe what they say, watch what they do. Another is, trust but verify and there are many more. Those sayings are more appropriate in today’s society, than ever. There doesn’t seem to be any consequences for bad behavior or actions anymore. What is up is now down and what was down is now up.

Whenever I go to those all-hands meetings, the executive giving the meeting always says how valuable and how much they appreciate their employees. Then they treat us like garbage. These people are amoral sc_mbags.

RTO made me hate my team. But on the plus it helped me learn who they really are which are back stabbing snakes.

I love when my manager spends hours each day looking at rto reporting and explaining to HR any discrepancies. This is a perfect use of their time! This company is really focusing on the right metrics to bring shareholder value!

With the constant layoffs there are hundreds of spare cubicles in my office. I may rearrange a few and make one giant cube.

They want you to quit, why make you happy? Why even respect you?

I always had the choice to work from home as several projects cut over in the evening. I was not paid OT or Comp time. I went into the office as my cube was full of reference materials that would not been able to be hauled back and forth. But I had a cube, a place to hang my coat, a locked drawer for my employee provided toilet paper and an extra pair of shoes. Now it is a shi+ show since COVID forced me home and then RTO.

I received an email today telling me what I am not allowed to talk about in the office. No negative statements, no telling friends you have worked with for twenty something years that you are going on vacation. Sit down stfu and don’t talk to anyone. F all the way off is what I say. Ridiculous. Townes org. Shocker.

AT&T is a hot dog manufacturer who makes employees abstain from processed meats. We say “connecting changes everything” and then we make people drive an hour to a sweatshop to fight for a desk. Brilliant!

It’s intentional “toxification” to incentivize the rank & file to leave of their own ‘volition’. Anything to avoid paying severance.

I think a lot of people would be ok with the RTO (vs FTW) if the company did not "half-a-s" it.

The fact that you don’t have a dedicated desk daily and instead have to play musical desks everyday to even find a place to sit and/or “make a reservation” to have a assigned desk for the day is CRAZY!

Culture ?
