Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Layoff whomever pushed VDI

VDI is the worst. Someone needs to held accountable for this disaster.

They'll outsource the horse & wagon too. It will be a cow & a rickshaw. No offense intended to any cultures, but if they are outsourcing everything, they might as well adhere to the local customs & outsource the iconic imagery too.

Whoever came up with this S should be fired, but they will probably get a fat bonus instead. This company is horrendously bad at acquiring hardware/software. Literally every single time their alleged upgrades are actually downgrades, and if we protest the loss of capability or performance the faceless support people just shrug. It's a joke.

Blame SVB. He had lunch with Michael Dell and they made a 20M deal to use app volumes (VMware). Absolute sh-t product.

@1nzx It also has a single USB-C port so you can only use one peripheral (monitor, kb, mouse) at a time. Sure, there's an option dock that will let you use all 3 but it costs more than the laptop.

“ Just wait till you're given a Microsoft Surface Go 2 to access your VDI with. Coworker recently got one, it has a 10.5" screen.”

I certainly feel the pain and it will be massively annoying, but at least it is better than having to purchase your own burner laptop for home and BYOD. At least the company is still paying for the Surface Go 2 device.

People who takes the decision to change technology in this company do not work, talk in the air and make money ( big bonus). VDI is windows 98 in a new form. Bill gates will be happy to sell his windows xp for free to this company to get the same functionality.

They’ll switch over to a Microsoft product. But where is the accountability for the money spent over this massive failure? McKinsey advise must be 😀

WF does not allow (trust) its technology professionals to be professionals. The bank doesn't incentivize good design, thoughtful implementation and minimizing support and operational overhead.

I come in each day and act like I do real tech work at a big important company. Every year that act gets me a MEETS, a paltry raise and a $12k bonus.

Ho-hum.

and if course when everyone is on vdi and there are problems the entire company can no longer do work. at least in the old days you could work offline.

Naw. It was rolled out. 100% success. Literally that’s all they looked at. All the post-deployment problems don’t count against the procurement and deployment.
