Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Interviewing

I'm over 50 and I don't like my chances here as long as Charlie is in charge so I started looking at other options at the start of the year. I landed a few interviews, but the whole process seems so different than when I last interviewed (I do admit that was a long time ago). Is it normal to have at least four interview rounds before you get an offer? Is it normal to get ignored after several interview rounds for weeks, or to never get a response at all?

2 or 3 side hustles equals 1 job.

What you are experiencing is what happens when it is an employer's market. I am trying to wait it out until things become a bit more balanced.

Went thru 7 rounds of interviews and got told they went with an internal candidate. It’s brutal out there.

everyone should apply for some jobs/interview every year. Even if you aren't really even interested in leaving your current company it will force you to update your resume and keep your interview skills fresh. Also, should you get a job offer you will learn your current market value.

I started looking to leave Wells after Charlie's Jan. 2023 Town Hall. One application in particular took 3 months to get an answer. 1,000 applicants and I made it to the final round of 10, missing out on the job. It is a mess. I stayed patient and am now in process of getting licensed to leave the banking industry for good after 25+ years. Banking is going the wrong direction. I'm willing to forego my severance at this point, the stress isn't worth it. You win Charlie, karma will deal with you.

Some of my interviewers ask questions not relating to the job I applied. Some of the interviewers told me they are interviewing different jobs than the one I applied.

Then a year later I noticed these companies sponsored h1 visa for the role I interviewed. Most of these interviewers were migrated here too, I guess just a big waste of my time and time off.

Yes, 100% normal.
Vile, but normal.

Yes it is normal. You are experiencing this like anyone else with a price tag commensurate with the experience.

Is contracting an option for you? Getting your resume in front of staff augment firms who specialize in Fintech might land you a role with a team looking for your valuable skillset for a backfill role etc. Good on you for being proactive.

Job hunting now is nothing like it was even pre-COVID. And if you're in banking/finance or anything tech or tech-adjacent, be prepared for literally months of job hunting, especially if looking for remote work.

The recruiting process is a joke at nearly every company. It’s theater. There is no connection between the process and outcomes (employee performance). They would be better off replacing it with a a text analysis engine and random number generator.

yes 100% normal for both. modern recruiting is just like this. think of it like a sales funnel - for every 1000 reaume drops maybe 5 interviews and 1 job come out. only way to streamline it is to work for a friend
