Reasons to stay

I got an offer, but the pay is 15 percent under what I make now. That's a tough pill to swallow, but I didn't give up on the offer right away. I did a pros/cons list to try and weigh it out. I have miserable raises, nonexistent promotions, declining benefits, poor management, too much work, lack of job security and a toxic culture in the "cons" column. I have currently higher pay and coworkers in the "pros" column. That's it. Now I feel like I'll be an id--t if I don't accept the offer, pay be damned.

You should stay to hit the rule of 75. A lot of delusional managers still think this means something.

I was a good employee once, everything stressed me out. I became the whatever the fock employee and just collects pay. If you can train your mind not to give a fock, collect your paycheck and wait to be laid off with severance, thats an option too. Dont give in to the stress. I know easier said than done, but ive been on your boat. Lose all the good, hardworker employee that you are now.

There is NO future for anyone thinking they can make a career out of it. It’s a dead company that is being exploited by Uncle Larry and White Mistress A. Dunn as a training ground for ESG garbage promoting only DEI hires. Get out with your dignity.

I've been put on the surplus list because I can't move to my assigned city. I'm barely eating now because of the stress. No appetite. Lost 5 lbs in 2 weeks. I vacillate between "lay me off already " and "let me hang for another month "...

I was in OPs shoes a couple of years ago, but I didn't hesitate to accept a new position, even with a 15% pay cut.

Why?

Oh, things like peace of mind; not dealing with incompetent and dishonest senior executives; no threat of layoffs ever quarter; no insulting "Town Hall" meetings filled with lies; no smarmy, arrogant, revolting CEO parading like some bald peacock; no dishonest or unethical business practices; no need to uproot my life to move to friggin' Dallas; no massive debt; no constantly eroding morale; and no more embarrassment when asked where I work.

That was worth far more than the 15% pay cut.

Negotiate it. You can squeeze out another 10-15%. They will never offer their best on the first pass.

Health insurance cuts into your pay after the high cost for you and family and then the deductibles are really high compared to years ago it's only getting more expensive.

In the long run you will make up that 15% difference. Remember that this company does not give out salary increases and bonuses based on real performance and will keep thrashing away at cost which translates 'employees will pay the cost' in salaries and benefits. If you're not lazy and a good worker guarantee you will be further ahead at the new company in benefits, salary and an actual career.

if you don't have any current offers outside of att take it but I would recommend leaving the company as soon as possible. you won't regret it guaranteed.

Don't discount the STRESS of every month wondering is this going to be the month they show me the door.
Also, the possibility of professional growth in the new job vs. at T.
Even though it may be 15% less pay now, always remember raises and bonuses at T are NEVER guaranteed.
Be sure to pray about it for peace!

I got surplus. Off for a month. Took job that paid 20% less. New job “entrepreneurial” and I might get promoted by year end. I will be a director with 1 report. They don’t have silly span of control rules. They are growing. Talking business from AT&T business and mobility competing on upfront, simple pricing. It almost feels like I’m at Cingular again when we always had profits and career growth.

Coming to AT&T should be a seamless transition for you then - it'll be like you never left your old job.

Do not discount stress and the opportunity to stay just because of a bit more money, the heavy toll it takes you may not even realize until you are out of it. Plus, you're current position likely won't last.
