Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Stink’s ageist Town Hall comments

“We have a mathematical issue we have to deal with in our company. The profile of our workforce does not match the profile of the population of the United States and the customer base. Both in terms of matching it demographically and matching it from an age perspective. We need younger people working at this company because that is the largest market starting to mature in the decision making levels and we need people around to educate us about how they think and what they do and they need to be germane to what we do everyday in running our companies. So this an opportunity for us to think about - yeah, it’s hard to say goodbye to that what we know… and really well trained people who have had a lot of experience.”

Stankey’s ageist views and commentary are infamous.

Having said that, you better believe I’ll join any class action lawsuit about this.

John,
So to sum up, you are clearly stating that your strategic goal for AT&T is to eliminate the older white male employee. That could be a major legal problem for you and the company. I’m one of those toxic old white men that was cut loose a week short of 25 years. Best thing that ever happened to me…. Living on Maui is better than I imagined. Be careful what you say in public… you never know…..
Hopefully those kids you hire can get this stock over $18

Hate to break it to you but this isn’t the first time they gave financ in Atlanta, the ultimatum. A few years after SBC bought Bellsouth, I was given the option to move to Texas or retire. I retired, my kids were still in high school and a lot of family nearby, best decision I could have made, never regretted it.

"And we live in Atlanta, one of the desired cities. So, I guess that's no longer a guarantee of employment either."

Atlanta was never truly a desired city. Desroches immediately stated that he is shutting down Atlanta as a hub for finance, and that all finance had to move to Dallas.

Nothing shackles the workforce like the millstone of crushing debt this company has. It can't afford to invest in R&D and CapEx to produce next gen products and revenue streams. The "older" employees have the skill sets to overcome and work around the limitations and still manage to be productive thanks to their experience. Good luck when that experience is gone. And it won't be coming back to save the day with insults like this.

My husband (an engineer with the company) was given his 2 weeks notice last week. This year would have been his 30 year anniversary. On the paperwork describing the type of work he does, they misrepresented it to state he works on 'legacy VOIP tools', which is not a correct or fair statement of what he does. But I guess he's one of the 'old guys' that Stankey doesn't want anymore. 2 weeks notice is an insult. No time at all to find an alternative employment. And we live in Atlanta, one of the desired cities. So, I guess that's no longer a guarantee of employment either.

  • “I’m one of these young developers he talks about and we’re miserable here too.

This place su-ks compared to actual tech companies and myself as well as all my peers want to leave.
We’re just waiting for the job market to heat back up in tech and we’re all leaving and taking that ‘young senior developer’ knowledge with us to other companies.”

Follow up to this, the sycophant HR folks can say what they want and say d-mb things like ‘oh noes back to the office’ but I guarantee none of them are technical or add any actual value (aka produce things that actually do something and make money) all those people are management or HR and their job is to basically just police behavior.

Everyone technical who I’ve talked to who actually have skills and options want out of this company.

But only in Dallas. We don’t need employees living in other regions or states to match the profile of the USA.

There is a voice recording of this meeting that an employee recorded in a one-party state on their personal device during the meeting. Anyone can do this...just record via a voice memo or, if you need/want video, then use your personal device and choose video via your camera options. This recording has been shared with individuals, some of which are no longer with AT&T due to surplus.

Arrogant Stink the sociopath has always sprinkled in a word from his word of the day calendar while inserting his foot into big mouth. He radiate Hubris , brazen arrogance and pseudo-intellectual zealotry. Remember 'FUNGIBLE'? How about his DTV 1+1=3 strategery? He has made a number of incredibly stupid comments that he walked backed or ignored feedback. He has always been a bidenesque a$$h0!e that people avoid, cater to and despise. The biggest math issues are his abysmal deals that resulted in mountains of DEBT. For totalitarian sage Stink the fix is the workforce should be cut 80%. Absolute insanity to have someone in place 'fixing' structural problem that is largely responsible for creating the largest disaster in corporate history

oh john you are so smart talking math.

just like evs are good cars right.

this guy just shoots from the hip and makes it up as he goes along.

your biggest amount of customers now are probably illegal aliens since you supported illegal immigration and now they probably all have your phones.

he is a criminal IMO and needs to be locked up.

Hey John, if you need AT&T to have a younger workforce, then you go first, you 62 year old fa-t. The younger group you court is not interested in working for someone so unqualified and out of touch.

He's getting his wish. Incredible wealth of knowledge walking out the door so far this year. Wouldn't want to be around in a year or so when the seeds he's sowing start to grow. There will be lot's of head scratching trying to figure out how everything actually works. Good luck.

Does this mean we will see a recording released at some point? God that would be amazing. I will never forget watching that town hall and saying to myself Oh Sh-t! Seeing his words written here is just a solid reminder of why this company will never be what he wants it to be. The young demo he is dying to attract can sniff out an inauthentic forced person a mile away and John Stankey doesn’t know how to be anything else. I hope karma will come for his old a-s soon - I’ll be waiting with my popcorn.
