PDS writing tips

Former XOM employee here who used to run an internal workshop on PDS writing.
Here are my best tips for you based on experience as a resume consultant

Formula for writing a good PDS:
Business result “by” what you did to get that result

Business result: This is how you made or saved the company money. Think about it this way: Why does a for-profit company like XOM pay someone your salary to do your job?

Examples:

  • Increased profits by $x (makes the company money) by optimizing x well.
  • Increased employee retention (saves the company recruiting money) by improving culture scores by 6%.
  • Decreased the risk of an expensive lawsuit (saves the company money) by minimizing the risk of x.
  • Increased sales by $x (makes the company money) by bringing-on new fleet business.
  • Decreased costs by $x (saves the company money) by playing a crucial role in an MBU-wide contracts review
  • Increased efficiencies, which is estimated to save the company $x per year, (saves the company money) by implementing a new software system.

I hope this helps. Good luck all.

What a crock of sh1tt.

Whatever you write in your PDS and however you write it, it doesn't matter nor mean anything. Your supervisor will do whatever he/she wants with your career regardless of whatever cr@p you write there.

Let ChatGPT do the work for you.

Also another tip, if you are over 50, don't spend more than 15 mins on your PDS.

Just turn in your 2022 PDS. There was once an employee in New Jersey that submitted the same PDS for ten years. He literally cut-n-pasted last years into the current year. No manager picked up on the fact that the employee had used the same PDS for ten years.

He retired after ten years. He clearly demonstrated to everyone that your "accomplishments" PDS means absolutely nothing during rating and ranking sessions.

If supervisor on "your side" helps provide ammo for the ranking meeting gauntlet might influence other managers who want to give you gravity..., if supervisor not on your side....you could solve the world's greatest problems and it wouldn't matter....

Tip: No matter how great you write your PDS, your manager already knows who to NSI long before you even start to write your PDS, so what's the point. Just don't sweat it out, just find a good sponsor, that's all you need to pass. Typical XOM.

Stupid sh-t abounds on this post. Year 1 you either save company or make company 1yr your annual salary. Year 2 you either save company or make company 1yr your annual salary. Year 3 you either save company or make company 4yr your annual salary. Year 4 you either save company or make company 8yr your annual salary. Year 5 you either save company or make company 10-15yrs your annual salary. If you don’t meet these unwritten subjective performance goals you go on pip; the eye is in the beholder of the management of how well your bend over or reach around skills are to amplify your subjective value add on from a $20 streetwalker to a $5k Vegas high ended friend. Said David Scott before being fired while in his notel motel.
