Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Be careful before you decide to jump ship

If layoffs are the main reason why you are planning to leave - and I know there are many other things wrong with T but this is specifically for those who are only concerned about layoffs - then finding a company where they will not be an issue will be harder than you might think. The lack of job security is not an exclusively T issue. Pretty much all major corporations no longer offer it. My point is, don't rush into things that'll put you in the exact same position you were in here.

Plenty of companies are also hiring.

Very well stated. As bad as T might seem all companies are laying off right now. We are 3 to 6 months from a recession. Nobody knows how deep it will go but I have not seen many that are pretty. For all those people that are going to tell me otherwise I say turn off CNN and dig into some data and charts and you will see what I am saying.

There's really no place to go. The entire US economy is collapsing faster than 2008 or Russia in the 90s. Hold on to any job for dear life and save as much money as possible.

"This unsettled period will pass."

Passing the Stankey era (error) is going to feel like passing a kidney stone for all those in his path. But who cares, he has his Augusta National Membership.

I've been ready to go for the last 3 years and have pretty much overstayed my welcome here at T. T has way too many useless rules and regulations for field technicians and they're not uniformed over the entire company. This company has gone downhill under the SBC tutelage in a very big way. I feel sorry for employees that are stuck for whatever reason. Get out while you can, when you can!

I don't think employees are 'jumping ship'. ATT is pushing people overboard. Most of those exiting the company would prefer to keep their jobs.

Gee, that’s funny my brother is an VP at a company in the industry and he’s never shared that with me.

Never quit before you’re ready. This unsettled period will pass.

I am quite sure all major corporations are not handling layoffs the same way AT&T is. Using zip code, age and pension eligibility as the main criteria is wrong on so many levels.
