Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Accepting relocation doesn't save your job

A coworker in ATS who was being relocated (told to move) from Nashville to ATL and had until December to move just got told his position is being eliminated effective 4/15. This company has no loyalty to any of its employees. Why would anyone move their lives for this company?

It’s another deflection to keep layoffs from att out of the local news. Truthfully I’m surprised they didn’t hand out the relocated pink slips at Christmas.

T can no longer afford relo packages other than by exception. And very few have niche skills that can’t easily be found in hub regions.

This happened several times in the last RTO before the pandemic. It is standard operating procedure. And they were paying for relos in 2018. You should absolutely not move, even if ATT offers you a move package.

If the position has been identified as no longer needed, are you really expecting T to provide lifetime employment?

“There was not a recorded message from Stankey, we was there and opened the session with a 30 minute talk. He did not complain about people not being loyal.”

Thank you for correcting and providing first hand information. So many posters on here greatly exaggerate and make false claims about leadership statements made during town halls and other speaking events.

It’s not that they don’t care. They just don’t really have a plan or any hopes of being successful.

Hello! Remember, if ATT leadership is talking they be lying. If they are not talking, they are getting ready to lie to you. Do don’t believe a word they tell you. Everyday is layoff day at ATT. The dumpster fire burns everyday.

You should ask your coworker why his or her leadership ranked this position as no longer needed.

I was in the Dallas cafeteria this week and Captain Baldypants was sitting by himself. I wanted to plop down my tray of Texas Chili right on his head but just need 2 more years until I retire with my big fat pension.

Tell them to talk to their union steward.

They still do Leading with Distinction?

I was told that the ongoing Leading with "Distinction" meetings include a recorded message from Stickey where he bemoans the fact that employees are not showing enough loyalty to the company.

We know, yes. The relocations are just silent layoffs. Those who are critical for the company have been given exceptions not to relocate.

There have been plenty of instances where those who accept the relocation are surplussed shortly after.

The company will get rid of you, they would just prefer to do it without paying you.

This was actually really helpful of T to let the employee know in advance.

RTO loss estimations are probably a money-saving line item on the budget now.

The company has always used physical report locations as a means for head count reductions. They did it to union employees and have figured out it’ll work for management as well.

You don't say?!?!?!

Loyalty, like many other things like honesty, integrity, and respect, is a two-way street. If you show it, then it will be shown back to you.
