Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Slap in face

Seems like a big rip off that the company dosen't give us employees a discount on phones. There must be some wiggle room in the deals with Samsun and Apple. Just another kick in the teeth.

Of course our company gets a volume discount. To say that you pay the same whether you buy from us or Sumsung may be true but that dosen't mean our company pays that amount to Samsung. The point of the OP is that our company dosen't pass any discounts on to us and for that, it's just another slap in the face.

They are sold at cost, someone above said they should be sold at $1000, the S24+ is $999, one dollar less than buying it from Samsung. I dont know if we get a volume discount but you can pay the same for the phone from at&t or Samsung...

We, like anyone, can get a better deal on a phone and the service with another company. It's just too f'n bad that we, as employees, don't get a better deal from our $chitty employer. If anyone asks me about phone service or employment opportunities, I steer them elsewhere. I would hate to be in sales with this company because I wouldn't be able to lie to people.

No they’re not. They should be sold to employees at cost.

The trade in credit was $1000

Credited to your account over 3 years and the phone is carrier locked for 3 years. You better be ready to pay it off when you leave the company or have another unlocked phone if you vacation outside the country.

Just avoid all that headache and pay full price for a “good enough” carrier and bootloader unlockable phone.

“FYI about substituting COU phones for other devices... The COU team generates monthly reports to directors, including IMEI mismatches, data use over a certain cap, apps loaded on each phones”

Duh. Guess what my org does with those reports… DELETE! If your boss wants to fire you (and do without a headcount because no backfills) they will bring this stuff up on your 1:1 sessions. But if you are like me, you are posting on your iPhone SE COU like me on layoff.com about violating COBC which good luck having to explain what “the internet” is to one of those geezers they hired in asset protection. I think I might order an AIA COU and charge my neighbor $20 a month to use it so they can cancel their Fiber plan with us.

FYI about substituting COU phones for other devices... The COU team generates monthly reports to directors, including IMEI mismatches, data use over a certain cap, apps loaded on each phone (surprising to see a lot of Bible apps), phones past their useful life and of course, phones that have not been upgraded to the current OS (which will be removed from the network after 3 warnings). You are fooling yourself if you think the volume of phones means no one is auditing. I've seen bargained for employees termed for misuse of their COU, like using it as a hot spot for streaming, and SIM swapping. If your confident you can beat the system, go ahead, it's another way to reduce HC without severance.

AT&T doesn't make phones, so why give us a discount? AT&T offers phone service, thus we get a discount on phone service.

Stink don't care as he gets all the free cell phones he needs.

What is more inline with Toxic-T philosophy of making employees miserable is the discount on service. I went to another carrier as their "public" rates are less than Toxic-T discounted rate.

F U Stink, you ba$ta-d.

Whatever the business arrangements are behind the scenes between our company and Apple and Samsung, the OP is simply saying it totally $ucks that we employees don't get a discount on the phones. Of course our discount on the service $ucks too.

I don’t defend the company but I haven’t paid full price for a phone in a long time. I just traded in my 13 pro max for a 15 pro max. The trade in credit was $1000. My 13 had a broken back which I noted. They still gave me the $1k credit. I have traded in my last 3 phones and received very generous credits. Most of my children’s phones were bought on promotion for $30. These were all the latest phones at the time. Most new phones I get are less than $200 out of pocket. Seems like a pretty sweet deal to me. If you add a line I think you can get a 14 for $60.

Get an iPhone SE out of a junk drawer and pop your COU sim in there.
  1. my cou IS a iphone se.
  2. sounds like a great way to get fired for a cobc violation.

when i bought my last phone at the apple store, i got a 2 or 3 percent discount on the hardware for being an at&t employee.

although i will note that currently if you go to the att perks benefits hub site, the special 'apple employee purchase program' discount is zero. Its the same price as going directly to apple.

I think the sales person gave me the hookup when i got the discount in store. :D

Just order a COU phone. But never install the device management software. Use the new iPhone 15 for your personal phone. Get an iPhone SE out of a junk drawer and pop your COU sim in there. Bam… you just got a free phone.

There must be some wiggle room in the deals with Samsun and Apple.

AT&T doesn't buy the phones from Apple and Samsung that wouldn't be fiscally responsible. No, instead those companies pay when their phones are sold. There's no dealer holdback on these either, they're sold AT COST.

First, since AT&T does not build the hardware I am not surprised. I think what is more woeful is the cr-ppy discount we receive on the services.
