Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

D9 be smart and strike with SouthEast at the same time!

I was impressed with GM strategy and how they won. With the two biggest unions in att at the same time out on strike the company won’t have a chance. The 3 months working without a contract will be the smartest move.

An extended work stoppage will save the company millions. Daily.
It's a win-win!
The company saves money and I get time off to get stuff done at home!!! YES!!!

Sounds like you’re financially set & don’t need this job. Tip o the hat!

Will be interesting to see how they are going to address opening multiple central offices everyday that are unmanned so, we can work. After a few weeks of that, they will probably give us the keys and cards back. 😜

I don’t recall keys/phones/etc being taken up the last 3 contracts or so.

It happened in 2016. They didn't do it with the rural areas because the managers didn't want to drive 2-3 hours up to those yards to let techs in.

I think the 2020 contract was ratified pretty quick because of COVID19.

That is standard company practice to take up keys, phones and badges when the contract is about to expire, especially over the weekend. You will continue the practice until something is settled. We have done the same thing in D3.

Stay strong, we will join together in 4 months, the company already knows we will strike, with almost 100% of members walking, the very few that did, are mostly gone. Workers don’t like scabs crossing a line when they are trying to improve their working conditions, benefits and wages. I don’t think the company will want 37k plus skilled workers out for very long. I know emergency services, govt agencies and the military don’t want that. It’s a national critical infrastructure. 911, FAA, medical necessary lines for things like remote monitoring or programming pace makers, alarm systems, etc.. won’t go into all the secret and secure lines for various entities.

Tick Tock, Last Day! Walk away bargaining team, you are at an impasse. Obviously the company wants a work stoppage, let’s start with the unfair labor practice one first then go from there. Keep bargaining until D3 can join in, it’s time to stop playing games and get a fair contract. Don’t settle early this time until we get improvements. An extended work stoppage will expedite the terms.

Priority #1 should be a unified contract date. Period. Non-negotiable.

D9 and cwa had the same opportunity to do that last go-around , in 2019. Instead , with about 3 weeks left until D3’s contract expiration , they reached agreement with the company , because of course the company didn’t want both districts on strike at same time. Like a fish to a shiny lure , D9 and CWA swallowed it. So much for unity. I’m sure the same thing will happen again this year. The CWA is worthless , has no real strategy and each district is only looking out for itself at the end of the day. D9 was so short sided. They could have gotten a better contract if they waited just 3 more weeks.

Yes, if you can hold out until August you should. I think there is one additional contract that expires in the fall also.

Slow down any work to be safe. Take more micro breaks per our PLE training. Use paid sick days on busy days. We’ve worked before without a contract but scheduling a walk our with our peers in the south east will get the company to wake up and share the money we’ve earned. How can any suit be worth millions when hated so much by their employees?

It’s 4 months till southeast expires and that might be a good strategy. Keep working under the old contract. Here’s the downside. Your west contract is much better than southeast contract. Sure you should get better wages in Los Angeles San Diego and San Francisco but a lot of the other elements are much better out west and for us that know this in the southwest and southeast we want that too. 12 protected sick days for all and severance can go as high as $280000. We want that too.

Of course by layoffs, you mean management. There has always been layoffs for bargained employees, with a few exceptions due to company violating the agreement. CP gets a reprieve for a while until, a new contract is settled.

I agree with the main post, let’s walk with D3, it’s ok to start a few weeks early to show the company we are serious. Regressive proposals are a no go, only a fair contract is acceptable. The bargaining team needs to walk away during this impasse at the negotiating table, tomorrow is the expiration for our current contract.

D9 bargaining team is terrible, they don’t have the smarts enough to be that strategic. Most of us techs will vote yes for a strike if they ever release the vote to do so. And most of us will happily stay out 3 months til the other district's contract expire to get what we need and want. Won’t happen though because it always seems that cwa and AT&T share the same sheets.
