Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

The relationship between management and staff is completely broken

I've worked for several major companies during my 20+ year long career, and I can tell you with certainty that none of them had this much of a disconnect between the people in the field who do the truly important work and those at the top. There needs to be an initiative where they are forced to do our jobs just for a week. Maybe that would help them see how unreasonable they're being.

When you RTO to Atlanta be careful if the home seller you choose has dirty clothes and there are fentanyl needles laying around the property and the houses bathrooms are almost as filthy as AT&T buildings toilets. They may be a squatter. Good luck “manager”.

Just do your jobs as outlined in your job briefs and STFU.

Will do! Don't be surprised when jobs are jeop'd and run late!

I used to save T millions a year. SVP could give a sh-t because he valued a-s kissing c suite sh-t show. He buried my accomplishments because head count reduction was ALL that matters. That’s why AT&T is the industry laughing stock and a Wall Street sh-t show double feature!

lots of folks(especially leaders but also employees) in our corporation are broken with reality - fossils living in the past (expecting that job is a god given - employees, leaders which can't communicate and don't know anything and just need to ensure continuity until very old age) and busy only watching their backs, busy being woke, the military background is also detrimental (no disrespect to our army and veterans)
the messages through the levels comes as d-mb from up - and ends at employees expecting "yes sir"

"I guess all the managers will be required to RTO in Dallas or Atlanta." Nah, they will be shutting down Atlanta in due time.

Union techs shouldn’t use big words like “engineering” and “project”. We keep you as far away from the actual meaning of those words as possible. Just do your jobs as outlined in your job briefs and STFU.

I guess all the managers will be required to RTO in Dallas or Atlanta. Thats what upper level management thinks of these work avoiders. They don't do that with craft. Good luck in Atlanta, don’t buy from a squatter.

Union tech work at AT&T = Lift that, dig that, hang that, place that, install that, repair that, test that. Don’t make it seem more complicated than it is.

Thanks. I will remember that when engineering fubars a project. I won't try to make it work.

Ummm....those of us L1 and L2 managers beg to differ. Field work is no more or no less important than management work. Having said that, I completely agree that the upper management is completely out of touch. But not just out of touch with field -- out of touch with us L1s and L2s too.

Inspite of the company’s best efforts, the techs keep the network running. Sometimes we trade tools and supplies with other groups. Sometimes restricted cards get temporarily moved because some id--t put restrictions on it and we can’t use it per the system and we have an outage. Because the truly important people up above making brilliant decisions get in the way and it’s up to the lowly people to figure away around them to get the customers we have left back in service.

OP: You have a misguided understanding of “truly important work”. I spent 14 years in the field in various roles including tech roles in I&R, Specials, DEG, Cable Repair and also as a field manager for several years before moving on to various IC roles as both a L1 and L2 manager.

While I value the time I spent in the field and the knowledge I gained from it, at no point did I consider it “truly important work”. Assuming your reference is meant to gaslight hard working managers here at AT&T, you should really do some research before making stoopid comments on this board. My guess is you don’t have a clue about what the various management level roles across the company do every day and you probably really don’t have any idea about how the company operates at all outside of your very narrowly defined union job title scope of work.

While I feel as though I’ve accomplished more as a management level employee, I’ll never make such an arrogant statement as you did about craft work being “truly important work”. Important to you, YES. Important in the grand scheme of things at a billion $ company like T, NO.

Union tech work at AT&T = Lift that, dig that, hang that, place that, install that, repair that, test that. Don’t make it seem more complicated than it is.
