Pre-Recorded Video Interviews

Have you applied to other companies and done any pre-recorded video interviews? I have not done it yet, so I was curious if any of you have done it and how it went. Recruiters are saying that pre-recorded video interviews are becoming popular among many companies so that they can save their time.

@1hcm+1rXchvAX, you mean many employees are going to share the candidates' video interview clips all over the office and make fun of it? That's like social media spreading people's personal information all over the internet.

Don’t do it. Even if you don’t get the job, a bunch of people will have your answers.

I have first hand knowledge of this at another company because I reviewed the videos with SMEs. There is nothing stopping them from saving and keeping a copy.

Many financial institutions are doing pre-recorded video interviews now. I was rejected twice despite going above and beyond in my responses.

This reminds me of some online college speech classes. Record your “speech” in your empty room and play the recording

One recruiter emailed me a technical job opportunity with Department of Transportation. They wanted me to send a pre-recorded video to them. Since I was not interested, I did not respond. But I can see where the job industry is going. Terrible.

I did a video interview for the airlines. Question pops up and you have 3 attempts to answer then can submit the most recent recording. It gives you a chance to pause and think of an appropriate response.

It's rare but I've heard of it. Many people's initial response is that these videos make age and other forms of discrimination easier.

The counter-argument is that the hiring manager would eventually see the same applicant in person anyway, and the video just saves time.

Another counter argument is that everyone else applying also has to do a video, meaning every applicant is in the same boat.

But personally, I don't like it. Most people are better communicators when there's an actual person to talk to live vs talking into a camera with no one else on the other end while you're talking. It's unnatural.

It also makes your first significant "interaction" with that potential employer very impersonal - a bad way to start a relationship.
