So I am in a smaller group with people affected by the LR. Total of less than 100 people in my VP chain. Three laid off 56, 48, 54. They could not even find an under 30 person who could make the list? I mean I know myself why I was targeted, I was warned by someone leaving a couple years ago that I may have a target on my back for LR but they could not find anything to conceal the age discrimination by my VP?

If I can show a 25 year old can objectively produce twice the output of a 50 year old at half the price, is it discrimination to fire the old person producing a quarter of the work per dollar or a valid business decision?
I was part of a group of 25 year olds that did exactly that with far better than a 4:1 performance improvement. It was a major transition point for many technologies. We knew them and the old people didn't, and they made no effort to learn. I've also been a 50 year old and amazed at how many of my "peers" still didn't know what I knew at 25, and I worked hard for those extra 25 years to keep learning. Too many modern 50 year olds are no more interested in learning than the earlier generations.

Five down votes yet no answers. Clearly you know it's a valid business decision and just don't want to face it.
Cisco has layoffs down to a science. They manipulate the overall stats to counter what gets done to specific groups. They employ an army of lawyers. Just the way it is.
Good the young eat the old anyway
Need fresh ideas and culture

I am a person in the protected class for age. I was let go last year. I received about the same amount I would have if I took the last retirement package. (note, I had 15+ years of service) Also my follow up bonus after I left was the most I've ever received even when I worked there. I talked to the person who had put in those numbers for my bonus and she said it definitely wasn't that much. So Cisco fluffed it up so I wouldn't be pi---d.
When I left I had to sign that I would not arbitrate or sue Cisco with this pay out.
Don't get me wrong, I think it's disgusting what they are doing to people of age and its totally against the law.
55 is the avg age for people in tech.
Cite? This is, on its face, absurd, but I'd love to see some numbers behind it.
Submit an ER Case and have it reviewed. This is out of control. Although they don’t do much, at some point, they’ve got to own up to it.

55 is the average age working at Sears.
What is the average age in tech industry?
According to a survey conducted by Stack Overflow in 2020, the median age of developers worldwide is 28 years old. This suggests that many developers, including those at large tech companies like Microsoft and Google, may be in their 20s or early 30s.
55 is the avg age for people in tech. If you still think your skills are relevant, it should be easy to find another job. Take the backage.
Be careful in engaging an attorney… an honest attorney (😂) will tell you straight away to take the package and move on. A not so honest attorney will assess your package and find a way to take it all as part of their fee and when you lose, they’ll just shrug and say ‘well we tried’
You are wasting your breath. Move on.
We had many LRs in our org all under 35 years of age. If you think you’re discriminated against, hire an attorney. Don’t sign anything when you review your severance until you talk w an attorney. I’d be very surprised if HR does not screen for age discrimination or for any other federally protected populations. It would be too easy to sue if not.
