Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Where is Cisco collaboration?

Does Cisco still have telephony and collaboration? What products Cisco have come up with lately? I have not heard anything new from this group for years.

I almost never use a "phone" at Cisco any longer. The BU (CX) said that we could only have voicemail if we had a "business case" for needing it. When I worked in the office, I loved having my desktop IP phone and controlling it via Jabber, then Webex because my headset worked w/ the desk phone, not a laptop.

Then, they came out and said we couldn't use "land lines" for Webex meetings due to calling costs, which I agree is a valid issue if people are using their home phones, mobile phones, etc., but if you're using a Cisco desktop IP phone in the office, and Webex is "on-prem", then it's just internal routing and no "land line", aka "ma bell" calling is involved. Then the pandemic came around and we were kicked out of the office, so our IP phones got left behind and now, I don't even have Webex connected to my Cisco phone since 1) no one ever calls it, 2) it doesn't have voicemail, so even if they call, and I don't answer it quickly enough because I can't find the answer button, I end up missing the call, and 3) all my calls are people trying to sell me something.

But I do have to say, I really miss having a desktop Cisco IP phone. Compared to the Avaya IP phones I've used at other companies, Cisco's IP phone is hand's down a better experience. Webex calling, OTOH, is nowhere near as good as the desktop phone experience. Probably why I just use my personal mobile phone anytime I need to make a call, which is rare, because everyone uses Webex IM's or emails.

It was good while it lasted. A market leader Cisco was in this space. I made a lot of money but spent a lot of time honing my Cisco collab skills to have the carpet pulled out from underneath me by Zoom, cloud and MS Teams. Now back to learning other IT skills to feed my family...

Collab used to bring in $4-5billion every year about 7 years. It made a lot of money for Cisco. Most of the teams got decimated and laid off due to cloud telephony.

Not sure if cisco replaced it with good cloud based telephony.

Cisco collaboration was dead since it was called Webex

"What products Cisco have come up with lately?"

Cisco sells & markets products, we don't create anything internally. Think of us as a government contractor version of Best Buy.

What do you mean nothing new? They’ve stopped us from using their physical phones now /s

All calling through the giant bloat that is the Webex app - several GB at last check. Hopefully they optimize that behemoth.

Didn't you hear? We have tone policing AI in Webex Teams now. Customers will be beating down the doors trying to buy from us.
