Fiber

Do people like working in fiber? Is it an attainable job? Considering moving over, any input is welcome.

I thought working in Fiber was rewarding. Especially in the Chicago area. Splicing inside a Lab truck provided shelter from the elements compared to being on a ladder or copper splicing in a manhole. But good luck getting into Fiber bc transferring is next to impossible.

“My question is are the rapid legacy decline numbers real? Just wondering if they are lying about that also. Seems like the only good thing on that front are the fiber adds and the subsequent services bundled with that.”

Yes, very little pots/dsl/& specials anymore. We’re basically price gouging pots to get customers to leave. Some old folks refuse & some have no other option. We’re price gouging T1s to force customers to fiber and then high costing them when they request fiber. Many of them can’t afford it so they stay on the copper T1

“If the adoption rates that are published are real“
They aren’t real - they count everything as a new customer - upgrades to service, moves, migration- and reselling of the same service to the same customer for less money…

Let me simplify the stupid comments. If your not hitting plan where your at (BAT or Platinum probably), you won’t hit plan in fiber. It is just as crummy over here, don’t do it.

If the adoption rates that are published are real then it seems that the “fiber world” will be a ongoing growth story for awhile. However my question would be how will that world structured? My understanding is that in some categories fiber is basically a one and done technology. If they achieve the goal of 50+% in the network by sometime in 25, what happens to the capital budget? They have already stated they expect a substantial decrease after this all hands on deck is completed. After that it seems fiber will be much more targeted. If the OOR strategy is successful how much of that work will be done inhouse? How much BEAD money will the government contribute? Etc, etc…

Well
Well well

Below you have the reason that AT&T Business is in the gutter and can’t GROW. Reality is, they probably would be better off just having no sales force than the one they have that viciously cuts spend and claims it as new revenue. Been going on for over 20 years and they can’t figure out why the place is in decline.

What's fiber like... Imagine retail rewarding the best phone upgraders in the market with the highest compensation and ranking. Those are the people with the best results so they clearly represent what the company desires right?

Upgraders was too nice. Let me rephrase.

Imagine retail compensating, ranking and recognizing the RSC's that excel in performing TOBR's..... Every TOBR you do from A to B we are going to pay you as if it's a brand new customer. Even if you proactively take customer A's bill from $1,000 to now $350. Commission check should come with a signed note from Stankey and JVB saying on behalf of our shareholders we want to thank you for all your hard work running SAART reports and calling existing customers and tanking our revenue.

Can't imagine GM financial is running internal reports and calling existing customers offering to proactively lower their interest rates.

Black rock calling all their existing tenants hey I know your rent is $3000 but I'd like to lower it to $900 if that's okay. Losing the company that pays me this $2100 monthly will make me look good on my internal scorecard and I'll get paid as if I signed up a new renter!!!! Win for you Win for me to he-l with our shareholders.

Truly believe Leadership means well when they ask for white space. Problem is they continue to allow the nonsense of old to run rampant and tank the firm. It's impossible to do a cut right now and not be left with the best migrators in America. Not a Hunter in sight just master compensation manipulators. If only reporting would expose the folks who've brought forth 0 new customers and negative 5k in spend for the firm each month. Then only then could we actually begin to GROW the business.

You need to be more specific. Doing what exactly? There are many jobs "in fiber." Do you want to install it? Maintain it? Plan it? Market it? Sell it? Manage it? Design it? Procure it? Recycle it?

I could go on and on.

Fiber sales is the easiest job in the company-
You need to make 10 to 12 legitimate sales-
Then just re-order the same service for the customer over and over -
The sales will pay and any questions are answered by the customer’s billing account and u wanting to retain them-
I literally haven’t sold anything new in 24

How do you work in fiber exactly? Are you teleported into a fiber strand and bathed in light and bombarded with photons?

I'm not sure he knows. I am sure of this. Your job is going to be teleported to a different city and if you choose to jump into that wormhole, you will be bathed and bombarded with unemployment within 6 months of making that leap. The only "light" you will see will be from the street lights. Your lights will soon be cut off due to non payment.

It's enjoyable making fun of others plight, isn't it?

Fiber the first year or so takes a lot of networking. That unless you want to make cold calls daily and door knock daily. The more networks you have the easier it will be. Work with techs, property managers, IT vendors, Mobility Partners and you will have it made. You however don't wake up one day hitting your numbers on a daily basis without putting in the work. Most fiber sellers just flip TDM POTS ETC, but now those are drying up so really important to have a network of people to go after white space and mobility spend customers. The ROES are always changing. Charlie is a so so leader and has flipped positions more times than I can count. Super cool guy though. Bottom line do the work the first year and you do fine.

I understand what you are trying to do. Unfortunately trying to transfer positions within AT&T is nearly impossible these days. It does happen though. Be willing to work in a different city if needed for a while.
I've seen some Prem techs transferred into Core CST positions as AT&T loses CST techs to retirement.
You will soon receive a bunch of smart azz responses from non bargarged folks terrified that their job is moving out from under them or that they must return to the office.
This noise will settle down as many of then fail to "Live their Designation" and many more are replaced by the good "hard working" folks in India. Tank Q.

Fiber is good for the digestion and can help with constipation.
