Except you neglect to understand Charlie and the rest of them getting in front of congress is all a show. When the cameras are turned off, they're all bumping elbows and laughing maniacally at the theatrics.
Do the math. If his salary were distributed to every employee, it’s an extra $100 for each of us. Big whoop. You go up in front of Congress and see how difficult it is to withstand that kind of pressure. Most of our employees can’t even be bothered to turn their cameras on in meetings. CEOs like him carry the regulatory and reputational burden for most of what we do. They have bodyguards because they’re under threat much of the time. Their pay is a reflection of the risk they take. I’m not a Charlie fan by any stretch, but I understand the challenge of the CEO job.
I have never understood why people get worked up over what other people make.

Very few people in this world would willingly be able to ruin the lives of tens of thousands of people while simultaneously destroying the United States. For his very unique ability to do so, he is paid accordingly.
