Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Return to Office

Can someone please explain the return to office requirements? I know it is 60% out of 20 days. I’m confused about holidays, vacation time, sick time, work from home approved days, and everything that goes in to the equation. It’s unfortunate that there is really no information about this anywhere. I just want some transparency.

@cpj

You’re going to have to explain numerator and denominator for our University of Phoenix graduates.

Prediction: This is going to be fun! Our kindergartners are once again going to try to game the new, even simpler system. Well it just cannot be any clearer starting today.

This time Robin is likely to put the hammer down on the bad apples and displace for cause with NO package. In the future I truly hope that we somehow manage to hire adults with a work ethic, as we used to do. Until then I’m embarrassed to tell people that I was associated with this once great historic bank.

It’s amazing that we can’t even hire employees who understand how to check corporate email.

Nobody needs to check on a layoff board for RTO requirements and one person has even posted the dates and times of two emails which completely clarify the RTO rules. The emails went to the entire bank. They were on top of your inbox!

Not being able to read and process a simple email makes me seriously question all of the Ops posts about not enough workers, overload, stress, PTSD, etc. I don’t know what ever happened to our once stringent hiring process but I’m very glad that I have zero exposure to BNYM, BK stock, VOYA 401K, etc.

Anybody left with talent and a work ethic absolutely needs to get out and job search immediately, if not sooner.

Absolutely - so glad to see the Working Together widget is now live on the MySource home page for everyone. And even better, the "Learn More" link on it goes to documentation that spells out in detail how the calculation works, including info that used to only be in the Manager FAQs. So hopefully there should be a lot less confusion about the calculation now.

Well it just cannot be any clearer starting today. If you still don’t understand how it all works you never will.

Round as per the rules of math 10.8 rounds to 11. 10.4 rounds to 10.

I find leave, sick days, holidays etc not all being counted as dashboards absence days never tally with my own count. No response when it's queried

@3yed, yeah, it's all well documented for 60 days in your inbox. This place can't even do basic management 101 correctly.

@icc

Employees don’t need to come here for information. Employees only need to read Bank email updates. One kind poster here was even kind enough to post the specific emails and dates.

@2vai

It’s a hot topic now because reality is finally setting in for those who thought that they could beat the system and make their own rules. For millennials who hired on during COVID it has likely spoiled their work ethic permanently.

Listen, sick days, vacation days DO count towards the 60% in office. Holidays as well. So account for them for those 12 days a month you have to go into the office.

Just go to the office and you won't have to worry. The occasional WFT home day is fine, but come on. People spend more time trying to figure this out than their actual job. And yes, it is vague for a reason, don't give BNYM another way to sc-ew you.

Ambiguous for a reason no doubt.

I've been as low as 57% and showed up as green. I won't push it any lower than that. Was also told by HR that a 1/2 day of vacation or sick time wouldn't reduce my requirement, but when the next dashboard came out it did.

I think it’s round up, actually. If 60% of available days comes to a fractional number, round up to the number of days you need to be in office. Need to hit that 60%…59.9 won’t meet the requirement. That’s what was explained to me anyhow. I do think there’s a widget being added to MySource soon so people can see their specific numbers, etc.

Kindergarten - why can't it be like before the pandemic?? I treat people (organizations) like I'm being treated.

We were told holidays and vacation days do not reduce the denominator.

So everything is round down, for certain? This is the part that is unclear.

The 20 days is your denominator. Any holidays, sick days, vacation reduces the number of days available (the denominator). Take that amount and times it by 60%. That’s your required amount. You can round down, so two sick days in a period brings you to 18 available days. Times it by 60% and you get 10.8, have to go in 10

Search for the "Working Together" site in SharePoint, then read the FAQ documents on there for the full details of how it's calculated.

Tells you all you need to know about the organization that employees have to come here to figure out the requirements. Good luck with your findings I reached out to hr and was given incorrect information. Everyone you ask tells you something different.
