Severance and 2nd Job

I am expecting to be released in April and currently work a 2nd job (necessary in this economy). When I am released will my 2nd job nullify my severance package? Worried :-(

Nope, you’ll get your severance. But not unemployment in California because you’re still employed . The only thing you may want to look into is if you take other employers insurance than you can cash out on severance ;)

What I do know is that per policy you cannot start a second job during your notice period and continue to collect severance. What I don't know is if you'd lose severance if you already had a job.

When I asked the displacement team they were very clear that starting ANY new employment during your 60 day notice period is against the terms of the agreement you sign, whether full time or part time. If you start the part time job before you are laid off it is not an issue.

No effect at all. A second job would only impact your severance if wf asked you back during the notification process and you were unable to return because you were already working elsewhere and unable to resume your wf position.

So you will have two paychecks. Rejoice. Enjoy it while you can.

Check out "The Work Number". You probably have to call WF HR to get access and freeze your data. It is 100% your data and you don't need a reason to give to WF or any employer about taking action on it. You can always unfreeze it upon request.

Pretty sure this is the #1 place where all of your work history/pay/addresses/etc are actively maintained and used by companies to do background checks.

It shouldn’t affect your severance but you may not be able to collect unemployment.

As long as you started it prior to your layoff notice you are fine. I called and asked this same question when I was displaced last year.

I don't think so. Did you declare it as a 2nd employment? Even so I don't think it should matter, it's not like they are paying you unemployment. This is severance, the penalty for laying you off.
