Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Cisco loves to keep their people on edge

Gone are the days for Cisco where employees can rest and live a happy life. Cisco loves to keep their people on edge and agitated so they work hard to drive leaders goals. Cisco is top heavy with managers and above sitting idle and driving others to ground while keeping their own jobs safe, while it lasts. Unless stock price improves, situation is grim, at best.

For all who wonder when it will stop. Well put, @zkg+1rjDenaX.

That’s why MSFT is trading at $300+ and Cisco is trading at $48.

Tell me you know nothing about businesses or stocks without saying you know nothing about businesses or stocks.

All joking aside, I make it a point to be very descriptive in my teamspace checkin. It is a good CYA tool. Especially if you have a difficult manager. I had one that was very aggressive in having the team work weekends. I commented on this regularly. And I gave detailed work/task summaries. If you are affected by a layoff, and contrary to what people say manager input does matter in some situations, this may be the paper trail that is needed to state your case with HR.

When I was at Microsoft the average employment was 4 years, then people leave. Managers will tell you the company doesn’t want folks to stay in their role for more than 2-3 years. It’s suggested to move to a new role inside or outside the company. Sure there’s reorgs and management a$$holes. But you encourage and expected to move.

I NEVER had a conversation like that at Cisco. Cisco culture is to work, get stock, work hard with fear to avoid a layoff so the stock vests. Continue for years thru constant reorgs and management changes. Eventually evolve to rest and vest and wait for your phat package you’ve convinced yourself you deserve.

Weekly check-ins, pulse surveys and staff calls (varies by team) are few ways to keep an eye on employees and their work. None of the LR and performance decisions are considered from these.

Why do we need so many managers? Do we ever question what are they accountable for? Next round on LR in 2024 will involve just the managers if Cisco needs to get back to on growth path!!!!!!! Hope HR is paying attention.

The top tech companies drive their employees out in less than two years on average. Cisco is a retirement home.
